What Happened?
Datadog (DDOG) closed at $260.36 on October 19, 2026, up 5.36%, after Bernstein upgraded the stock to Outperform and raised its target to $350 from $237. That target sits above the $340 high in TIKR’s October 16 Street data. Shares remain 11.22% below their October 9 closing high of $293.26.
Bernstein’s analyst also flagged that customers who get big enough have tended to bring monitoring in-house. Datadog’s CFO made a different case a month earlier, and pointed to a runway the upgrade does not address. Third-quarter results arrive before the market opens on November 4, per Datadog’s investor relations materials.
Datadog’s CFO Says the Cloud Shift Is Still Early
At Goldman Sachs’ Communacopia + Technology Conference on September 10, CFO David Obstler pointed to how little of the market has moved. “The research companies say that somewhere upper 20s, 30% of applications are in the cloud,” he said. He added that many enterprises “really haven’t even started their first material projects.” He cited Datadog’s customer announcements in banking, insurance, automotive, manufacturing, and airlines as evidence that migration is under way.
To catch those projects, salespeople in Datadog’s key accounts group now cover one or two accounts “where the IT budget and conversion to the cloud can be in the tens of millions.” On the in-house question, Obstler described AI-native customers moving the other way: “we’re seeing a movement from open source or initial efforts or cobbling it together towards Datadog.”
Customers with $100,000 or more in annual recurring revenue reached about 4,720 at the end of the second quarter, up 23% from a year earlier. Obstler called these enterprise sales cycles very long, so that count tracks the strategy better than any single quarter’s revenue.

Datadog Trades at Twice the Peer Median on Revenue
At the October 16 close, Datadog’s enterprise value traded at around 17 times NTM revenue. The median for the nine companies in TIKR’s software comparison set, which runs from Microsoft (MSFT) to RingCentral (RNG), was around 8 times. The October 19 gain pushed Datadog’s multiple higher.
Margins support part of that premium. Datadog’s second-quarter adjusted EBIT margin widened 307 basis points year over year to 22.92%, while revenue grew 35.64%.
The known gap is the largest customer. Datadog said in August that the account had renewed but that its usage would decline starting in the third quarter, a cut built into guidance. Obstler did not claim every customer stays fully on the platform: “it isn’t the case all the time, and it also isn’t 100% or 0%.” Before Bernstein’s upgrade, TIKR’s October 16 data showed a mean target of around $290, with 33 Buys, 10 Outperforms, 3 Holds, 1 Underperform, and 1 Sell.

The TIKR model’s mid case values Datadog at around $726 by December 31, 2030, a total return of around 179% from $260.36, or around 28% a year over 4.2 years. It is a scenario built on assumptions, not a forecast.
Over the model’s 2025 to 2035 forecast, the mid case assumes around 21% annual revenue growth and a net income margin near 29%, against 24.4% over the past year on the model card. The primary risk is a valuation reset toward the peer median before those margins arrive.
On the upside, adjusted margins are already widening. On the downside, a multiple at the peer median of around 8 times revenue would be less than half of Datadog’s October 16 level.
Conclusion
November 4 shows whether AI-native customers keep moving onto Datadog, as Obstler described, or in-house, as Bernstein warned. Growth in $100,000-plus customers at or above the second quarter’s 23% pace would support the premium. A slowdown below 20% would make the gap to the peer median harder to defend.
