What Happened?

Huntington Bancshares (HBAN) slid 6.0% on Friday, closing at $18 after the company reported a disappointing fourth quarter.

Investors punished the regional bank after it reported that “Q4 net income falls 17% on acquisition costs,” missing analyst estimates.

The primary concern was an expense spike, as operational costs rose significantly year-over-year, eating into profits despite solid revenue growth.

This triggered a classic Red Flag selloff, as Wall Street fears that rising costs from recent mergers could drag down margins in 2026.

Is IIs Huntington Bancshares Undervalued Today?

Despite the earnings miss, the underlying business showed signs of robust expansion during the Q4 Earnings Call.

CFO Zach Wasserman highlighted that “average loans grew 14.4% year-over-year,” driven by strong commercial and regional banking activity.

He addressed the cost concerns directly, noting that while expenses are up, the company expects “revenue growth on a stand-alone basis between 10% and 13%” for 2026.

Wasserman also emphasized the long-term strategy, stating that the merger integration will deliver “cost synergies from Veritex in the second quarter and from Cadence in the fourth quarter.”

According to TIKR’s Advanced Valuation Model, this temporary dip creates a massive disconnect between price and value.

  • Advanced Model Price Target: $38
  • Current Price: $18
  • Potential Upside: +116.3%

The model assumes Huntington can maintain an 11.2% revenue CAGR through 2030 as it scales its expanded footprint.

Conclusion: The expense spike is real, but so is the growth. With loans growing double-digits and a valuation model pointing to $38, Huntington Bancshares stock may be offering a deep-value entry point.
