What Happened?

Credo Technology Group (CRDO) fell 21.6% last week, from $216.54 on October 9 to $169.70 on October 16. The slide began on October 12, when shares dropped 7.25% the day Credo unveiled its 1.6T ZeroFlap active light cable (ALC) at the OCP Global Summit. Peer Astera Labs (ALAB) fell 5.3% in the same session. Credo edged up 1.83% to $172.81 on October 19.

Some reports tied the drop to the cable’s 2027 ship date, but Trefis found no report linking the October 12 fall to the launch. Credo’s investor relations materials and a September conference appearance show that date was already the plan.

The ALC’s 2027 Ship Date Was on the Record in September

Credo’s launch announcement puts the ALC at 12 watts per cable end, roughly 30% less than comparable active electrical cables (AECs). It reaches 50 meters and ships in 2027.

At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference on September 10, CEO Bill Brennan said, “we’ll be demonstrating at OCP next month. And from there, we expect to go through qualification and then be in production in FY ‘28.” Credo’s fiscal 2028 begins around May 2027, so the release matched that schedule. The reach also grew from the 30 meters Brennan described then.

Reach matters because reliability is what Credo sells. Brennan said xAI staff told him they can bring a cluster up in 5 days, against the 6 to 8 weeks he cited as the alternative. “You can measure a month in a $1 billion increment from a revenue standpoint,” he said.

The sector added pressure. The PHLX Semiconductor Index fell for a seventh straight session on October 15, according to CNN, on rate and AI-funding worries. Credo’s five-year beta of 3.23 magnifies those swings. Insiders also kept selling under pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plans, according to StreetInsider.

Fleming’s Fiscal Q3 Step Is Already in the Estimates

CFO Dan Fleming guided sequential growth of “call it, 20% into Q3, 30% into Q4,” setting up a “$1 billion quarter” in early fiscal 2028. Consensus already matches:

  • Fiscal Q3 (ending January 2027): about $642 million, up ~21% sequentially
  • Fiscal Q4 (ending April 2027): about $841 million, up ~31% sequentially
  • Fiscal 2027: around $2.5 billion, up ~87%

The multiple depends on which earnings measure is used. At the October 19 close, Credo’s price-to-earnings ratio is about 27x fiscal 2027 normalized EPS consensus of around $6.30. On GAAP EPS consensus of around $4.40, which counts costs such as stock-based compensation, it is about 39x.

That gap showed up in fiscal Q1. GAAP EPS of $0.67 missed the $0.89 estimate, and free cash flow of $82.95 million was near half the $164.95 million expected. Shares fell 20.04% on September 2, the session after the report.

Before OCP, Mizuho cut its target to $245 and Stifel to $310, both keeping bullish ratings. Rosenblatt held Neutral at $235 on October 15.

The mid case uses the $172.81 October 19 close as its entry price and realizes on April 30, 2031.

  • Revenue Driver 1: AEC demand as AI clusters move to 1.6T
  • Revenue Driver 2: Optics volume, which Brennan said will reach hundreds of thousands of units per month by the end of fiscal 2027, then double and triple by the end of fiscal 2028, with ALC production targeted for fiscal 2028
  • Margin Driver: Non-GAAP gross margin, which Fleming called “straight down the fairway” at around 68%
  • Primary Risk: A persistent normalized-to-GAAP gap that keeps the fiscal 2027 GAAP multiple near 39x
  • Upside: A faster optical ramp, which Brennan named as a key source of outperformance
  • Downside: An ALC qualification slip would leave Credo leaning on AECs, where Brennan acknowledged customers surge and pause from quarter to quarter

Conclusion

Credo’s fiscal second-quarter report covers the quarter ending around October 31, and its date is not yet confirmed. Revenue above the $535 million top of guidance, plus a fiscal third-quarter outlook near $640 million, would confirm Fleming’s 20% step. A guide implying low-teens sequential growth would put the Street’s back-half numbers at risk.
