What Happened?
Adobe (ADBE) stock is in focus today after the company named Anil Chakravarthy as its next president and CEO. He’s taking over from Shantanu Narayen, who announced back in March that he would step down.
The transition officially happens on December 1, and Chakravarthy will also join Adobe’s board.
Chakravarthy currently leads Adobe’s customer experience orchestration and worldwide field operations. Narayen, who joined Adobe in 1998 and has run the company for 18 years, will move into the executive chair role and work closely with Chakravarthy during the handoff.
In a statement, Narayen called Chakravarthy “an experienced transformational leader who leads with values, integrity and a deep knowledge of our business.”
Chakravarthy joined Adobe nearly seven years ago after serving as CEO of Informatica, an enterprise data management company.
He’s previously said his connection to Adobe and Narayen grew out of a partnership between Informatica and Adobe.
This leadership change comes at a tough time for Adobe stock.
Investors have been worried that AI could disrupt traditional software companies, and that concern has weighed heavily on the stock.
After a strong run in 2023, Adobe shares fell 25% in 2024, another 21% in 2025, and are down 18% so far in 2026.
Following today’s CEO announcement, Adobe stock dropped about 2% in extended trading.

Another notable departure came with this news.
David Wadhwani, who has led Adobe’s creativity and productivity business for nearly five years, announced he’s leaving the company.
Wadhwani was previously seen as a strong contender for the CEO job, partly because of his role in Adobe’s attempted acquisition of Figma, a deal ultimately called off in 2023 due to regulatory issues.
In a LinkedIn post, Wadhwani said he has some new company ideas he wants to explore and said this feels like the right moment for a new chapter, both for himself and for Adobe. He added that he’s confident in where Chakravarthy will take the company.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Adobe Stock
The modest drop in Adobe stock following this announcement suggests investors are taking a wait-and-watch approach to the leadership change.
Given the pressure Adobe shares have already faced from AI-related concerns, a new CEO brings both opportunity and uncertainty.

Chakravarthy steps into the role at a pivotal moment, with the company needing to prove it can adapt its business to an AI-driven software landscape.
How he addresses those concerns once he officially takes over in December will likely be a major focus for Adobe stock investors.
