What Happened?

Alphabet (GOOGL) stock is getting a lift after a rough summer, and Wednesday brought several pieces of good news at once.

First, Google launched Gemini 3.8 Flash, its third Flash model in just six weeks, alongside a new cybersecurity-focused model called Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber.

Google is calling it the best reasoning and coding model in the Gemini lineup so far, with real gains in software engineering and multi-step tasks.

Pricing stayed the same as the previous Flash model, even with the upgrades. That matters because Google is leaning hard into being the affordable option.

Gemini Enterprise is also rolling out pay-as-you-go pricing, token discounts up to 20%, spending caps for agents, and even a free base subscription tier.

Google is directly comparing this to Microsoft and Anthropic, arguing their pricing is more expensive and less flexible.

Analysts aren’t fully sold that this closes the gap with rivals, though. Gil Luria at D.A. Davidson said the new model “seems to keep Google in the race” but still leaves the company “a distant third in the enterprise market.” He rates Google stock a hold.

Second big win: a federal judge ruled Google won’t have to sell its AdX ad exchange in the DOJ’s antitrust case. Instead, the court chose behavioral fixes over breaking up the company.

This follows last year’s separate ruling that also spared Google from having to divest Chrome. Antitrust attorney Wyatt Fore called it a “big deal,” noting Google now heads into the AI race with “no hands tied behind its back.”

Third, Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel gave Alphabet a public vote of confidence, telling CNBC that Berkshire sees Alphabet as an AI winner based on how its own portfolio companies use Google’s technology.

Underneath it all, Google’s core ad business kept performing, growing 14% last quarter. On the cloud side, nearly three-quarters of Google Cloud customers already use its AI products, and those customers are spending about 50% more than they originally committed to.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Alphabet Stock

Google stock hasn’t fully rebounded yet; it’s still down slightly for the week, but new product launches, a favorable court ruling, and a high-profile investor endorsement are giving the market reasons to feel better after a summer that included AI talent departures and a DeepMind restructuring.

The antitrust win in particular removes a real overhang, since a forced breakup would have been a much bigger risk to the business than losing ground in the AI model race.

Investors seem to be weighing this as a step in the right direction rather than a full turnaround, at least for now.
