What Happened?
Freshpet (FRPT) stock jumped after TD Cowen upgraded the company to Buy, setting a $80 price target. That’s roughly 21% above where the stock trades today — and the upgrade comes with solid reasoning.
The catalyst was Freshpet’s fiscal 2025 results.
- The company crossed $1 billion in annual revenue for the first time,
- The company posted $1.102 billion in net sales, up 13% year-over-year.
- Operating income nearly doubled.
- Freshpet generated positive free cash flow a full year ahead of its own target — a milestone that matters because it signals the business is no longer burning cash to grow.
Those results appear to have reset analyst confidence. TD Cowen’s upgrade reflects a view that the worst is behind Freshpet and that the growth story is back on track.

CEO Billy Cyr echoed that tone on the earnings call, acknowledging a tough 2025 but pointing to early signs of improvement.
- The company is expanding into retail, testing new fridge island formats that hold 2.5x more product than a single unit, and
- growing its e-commerce business, which now accounts for 14% of total sales and grew nearly 40% last year.
For 2026,
- Freshpet is guiding for 7% to 10% net sales growth and
- adjusted EBITDA of $205 million to $215 million.
The company also received $95.5 million from the sale of its stake in Ollie, a DTC dog food brand, bringing its cash balance to roughly $400 million.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Freshpet Stock
Freshpet stock has been under pressure as growth in the pet food category has slowed in 2025.
Consumer caution hit the premium end of the market hard. But the company still outgrew the category by more than 10 points, held onto market share, and kept expanding margins — which is exactly what a market leader is supposed to do in a tough environment.

TD Cowen’s upgrade suggests the sell-off may have gone too far. At $65, Freshpet stock trades well below the $80 target, and the fundamentals are improving.
The risk is that the consumer backdrop stays weak and growth stays in the lower half of guidance.
But with a stronger balance sheet, new retail formats in testing, and an e-commerce channel gaining traction, Freshpet stock has more levers to pull than it did a year ago.
