What Happened?
Boston Scientific (BSX) stock dropped after the company said it can no longer stand behind its Q3 and full-year 2026 sales and profit forecasts.
A cybersecurity incident first identified on August 25 was the culprit. Unauthorized activity on some of the company’s IT systems caused a network outage that disrupted manufacturing, as well as the processing and shipping of customer orders.
Boston Scientific recently guided for full-year 2026 adjusted earnings between $3.28 and $3.32 per share, with sales growth of 5.5% to 6.5%.
For Q3 alone, the company had projected adjusted earnings of 80 to 82 cents per share. That guidance is now off the table.
Boston Scientific says it expects to win back some of the lost revenue as operations ramp back up and backlogs clear, but the company admits the full financial hit is still uncertain.
On a more positive note, Boston Scientific said Saturday that major distribution centers are now processing and shipping orders at or above normal levels.
Sterilization facilities are back online, and manufacturing has resumed across most global facilities.
The company said the incident’s effects were limited to select internal infrastructure, and product quality checks found no problems beyond disruptions to new activations on its cardiac device remote-monitoring platform.
Stifel analyst Rick Wise said investors are increasingly viewing 2026 as a “lost year” for the company and are shifting their focus to what 2027 might look like instead.
J.P. Morgan analyst Robbie Marcus added that the cyberattack makes it harder for investors to judge the company’s underlying business trends, delaying any read on growth and competitive dynamics in key areas like electrophysiology and its Watchman heart device.

This isn’t happening in isolation either.
Boston Scientific is just the latest healthcare company to get hit by a cyberattack, following similar incidents at Abbott Laboratories, Stryker, Medtronic, and Novo Nordisk.
Healthcare and medical device companies have clearly become frequent targets recently.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Boston Scientific Stock
The stock’s 6% drop suggests the market isn’t panicking but it is worried for sure, but there’s real uncertainty baked into that reaction.
Boston Scientific stock was already under pressure heading into this news, since the company trimmed its 2026 profit forecast in July because of softer demand for its Watchman device.
Now, with operational guidance pulled entirely, investors are left waiting for clearer answers.

Boston Scientific plans to give an updated outlook when it reports Q3 results on October 28.
Until then, Boston Scientific stock will likely stay sensitive to any headlines about recovery progress, since the company has said the full financial impact of the cyberattack remains unclear.
For now, the market seems to be treating this as a temporary operational setback rather than a deeper business problem, but that view could shift once actual numbers come in next month.
