What Happened?
Tesla (TSLA) stock is on track for its strongest week since May, driven mostly by robots and robotaxis.
On this week’s Q2 earnings call, Elon Musk said Cybercab has officially started production, along with early manufacturing of Optimus, the Tesla Semi, and Megapack 3.
Musk called this “a massive CapEx year,” but said he expects it to deliver “maybe the best CapEx returns that we’ve ever seen.”
The robotaxi story looks especially strong. Tesla now runs unsupervised robotaxis in seven U.S. markets, and VP of AI Ashok Elluswamy said the fleet has logged more than 380,000 unsupervised miles with zero notable incidents.
He said weekly mileage has been growing at double-digit rates for months, and management expects that pace to hold through the rest of the year.
Demand for Full Self-Driving is also picking up. About 55% of North American deliveries in Q2 included an active FSD subscription, and paid FSD customers have grown to nearly 1.5 million worldwide.
Musk said some buyers are now choosing their car based on FSD availability first, then the vehicle.

Not everything in the news this week was positive.
Tesla is voluntarily recalling about 3 million vehicles in China over two separate issues: a doorhandle problem that could trap occupants after a severe crash, and gaps in its driver attention monitoring system.
Tesla plans to fix both with over-the-air software updates, including new logic that automatically lowers windows after it detects a crash.
The recall covers Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles built between 2019 and early 2026. China has also become tougher competitively, with Tesla’s Model Y deliveries there down 18% year over year in July, as rivals like BYD and Xiaomi gain ground.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Tesla Stock
So far, investors seem to be looking past the China recall and focusing on progress with the robotaxi and Cybercab instead.
That’s a meaningful signal. Recalls tied to software fixes are generally less costly than ones requiring physical repairs, since Tesla can push updates remotely rather than pulling cars into service centers.
Meanwhile, the operational data from robotaxi, especially the safety record over hundreds of thousands of miles, gives investors something concrete to point to rather than just future promises.

The rally suggests the market is treating Tesla stock less like a traditional automaker right now and more like a bet on autonomy and robotics scaling up.
Whether that view holds will likely depend on how fast Cybercab and Optimus production actually ramps in the coming quarters, and whether China’s competitive and regulatory pressure keeps building.
