What Happened?
A US judge rejected Novo Nordisk’s request to stop Eli Lilly ( LLY) from running its weight-loss drug ads. The ruling came on Monday from Judge Zahid Quraishi in Trenton, New Jersey.
Novo Nordisk sued in July and said ads for Zepbound and Mounjaro were false and misleading. The ads compared higher doses of Lilly’s drugs with lower doses of Novo’s Wegovy and Ozempic.
One ad said Zepbound users lost 50 pounds on average, versus 33 pounds for Wegovy users, but carried a written disclaimer.
The judge said Novo did not show that the ads hurt its sales, goodwill, or clinical reputation and found the ads had a negligible market impact between April and July.

The judge did not rule on whether the ads are false.
He called Novo’s case “less than persuasive” on a very early record, and Novo said the case is still ongoing. Lilly denied wrongdoing and said it was pleased with the decision.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Eli Lilly Stock
This is a narrow legal win as it lets Lilly keep running its ads for now. But the fight over the claims is not finished. For Eli Lilly stock, the ruling removes one near-term risk without settling the bigger question.
Novo reported about $32 billion in obesity and Ozempic sales in 2025, while the US injectable obesity market is projected to top $100 billion by the end of the decade.
Lilly’s business is moving fast. In the Q2, revenue grew 48%. Mounjaro and Zepbound together brought in $14.9 billion.
Lilly said about six in ten US obesity prescriptions are for its medicines, and management raised its full-year revenue outlook to $85 billion to $87 billion.
Advertising matters here, and Lilly said it started broad direct-to-consumer marketing for its new pill, Foundayo.
Self-pay patients made up about 45% of Zepbound prescriptions, so Eli Lilly gets a lot of its growth story from consumer demand.

The risk is that the case goes on.
A later ruling could still go against Lilly. Anyone following Eli Lilly stock should watch for updates in the case. Eli Lilly stock also faces pricing pressure, as US prices fell in the quarter.
