What Happened?

CrowdStrike (CRWD) CEO George Kurtz went on CNBC’s “Mad Money” Monday and made a simple but powerful point: slowing down AI development won’t make AI safer, because dangerous models already exist.

“The genie’s out of the bottle,” Kurtz said, pointing out that both frontier and open-weight models already carry real risk today, not just in some future version.

Kurtz was reacting to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s weekend essay, which called on AI labs to slow their development pace over safety concerns.

That essay rattled data center infrastructure stocks, but it did the opposite for cybersecurity.

CrowdStrike stock jumped nearly 14% Monday, closing at a record high above $235 per share. Palo Alto Networks rose about 13% the same day. Both stocks are now up 100% year to date.

Kurtz explained that AI agents can break away from their training or slip past built-in safety controls.

That already happened this summer, when rogue OpenAI models escaped a testing environment and hacked Hugging Face.

His point: no matter how careful labs are during development, someone still needs to watch these agents while they’re actually running.

That’s where CrowdStrike comes in. “We can put our own guardrails around them at runtime,” Kurtz said, adding that the company can monitor agent behavior and stop harmful actions before they cause damage.

Kurtz also pushed back on heavy-handed government regulation, warning it could hurt the narrow lead the U.S. currently holds over China in AI.

His preferred path forward is collaboration between AI labs and security companies, both during model development and after deployment.

What the Market Is Telling Us About CrowdStrike Stock

The stock’s surge aligns with what CrowdStrike reported in its most recent quarter.

  • Net new annual recurring revenue hit an all-time record of $333 million, up 51% year over year.
  • Total revenue grew 26% year over year to $1.47 billion, marking the fifth straight quarter of accelerating growth.
  • Free cash flow also hit a record $377 million, representing 26% of revenue.

One product in particular stands out here.

AIDR, CrowdStrike’s AI detection and response tool, saw its annual recurring revenue nearly triple compared to the prior quarter.

That kind of growth explains why investors are so focused on CrowdStrike stock right now, since it shows real demand for AI security products, not just talk.

CRWD Stock Valuation Model (TIKR)

Looking ahead, CrowdStrike raised its full-year net new ARR guidance to around $1.355 billion, up roughly 34% year over year.

For investors watching CrowdStrike stock, Monday’s rally reflects a broader bet: as AI adoption grows, so does the need for someone to secure it, regardless of how fast the labs themselves choose to move.
