What Happened?
Amazon (AMZN) stock is facing pressure after the company announced it’s pausing operations with 21 Air, the Miami-based cargo carrier behind last weekend’s deadly plane crash.
The flight, operated for Amazon’s cargo logistics network, Amazon Air, overran the runway while landing at Miami International Airport and struck several vehicles on the ground. Five people died in the accident.
An Amazon spokesperson said the company has spent the past several days supporting the investigation and reviewing the circumstances around the crash before deciding to pause its relationship with 21 Air.
Amazon said it will keep working with investigators and continue supporting everyone affected by the tragedy.
The aircraft involved was a 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 freighter. Before becoming a cargo plane, it had spent over two decades flying as a passenger jet for various airlines, from 1994 until 2015, according to flight tracking service Flightradar24.
New details from the National Transportation Safety Board are adding more context to what happened.
Investigators said data from the flight recorder shows the pilots actually considered aborting the landing after the plane had already touched down.
Even more concerning, one pilot warned just over a minute before landing that the aircraft was flying “too fast.”
The flight was also the plane’s third of the day. It had already flown from Cincinnati to Miami, then Miami to San Juan, Puerto Rico, before returning to Miami, where the crash occurred.

For its part, 21 Air said it remains focused on supporting the families affected and is working closely with both the NTSB and Amazon as the investigation moves forward.
The carrier also said it’s confident in its own safety policies, procedures, and training.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Amazon Stock
When a company distances itself from a partner after a fatal incident, investors often read it as a serious response to a serious problem, and that’s likely part of what’s weighing on Amazon stock right now.
Air cargo is a meaningful part of Amazon’s logistics network, supporting the fast delivery promises customers have come to expect.
Any disruption or scrutiny in that part of the business tends to get investor attention, especially when human lives were lost.

That said, this move affects one specific carrier relationship rather than Amazon’s broader air cargo network.
Still, the timing matters. Investigators are actively piecing together what went wrong, including pilot warnings about speed just before landing, and that ongoing NTSB investigation means more details, and potentially more headlines, could still be ahead.
Until the investigation concludes, Amazon stock may continue reacting to updates tied to the crash and any further steps Amazon takes with its cargo partners.
