What Happened?

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM) stock slipped on Thursday, but that came right before the company posted record monthly revenue for August.

Revenue hit NT$514.8 billion, or about $16.35 billion, up 53.3% from a year earlier and up 10.1% from July. This marks the fourth straight month of rising revenue for the chipmaker.

The strength keeps building on what Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company stock investors already knew going into the quarter.

Back in July, during its Q2 earnings call, the company said AI-related demand was “extremely robust.”

That quarter delivered a more than 77% year-over-year jump in profit, and management guided Q3 revenue to a range of $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion.

New data from TrendForce released Wednesday shows the company held a 72.5% share of the global foundry market in Q2.

That’s a massive lead over Samsung Foundry, which came in second with just 5.9%, and China’s SMIC in third with 5.4%.

According to TrendForce, strong demand for AI server processors kept TSMC’s advanced 5-, 4-, and 3-nanometer capacity fully booked during the quarter.

The broader foundry industry is benefiting too.

The world’s top 10 foundries combined posted record revenue of nearly $53.49 billion in Q2, driven largely by supply constraints on the advanced chip processes used in AI and high-performance computing.

TSMC is also looking ahead on the technology front.

This week, the company announced a joint initiative with Dutch equipment maker ASML to push the industry toward next-generation chipmaking tools.

TSMC plans to bring ASML’s High NA technology into large-scale manufacturing for advanced nodes starting in 2030, as AI applications demand increasingly complex transistor designs.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Stock

The slight dip in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company stock ahead of the revenue release looks more like normal trading noise than any real concern.

Once the numbers came out, they confirmed what most investors already expected: AI chip demand isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Four consecutive months of rising revenue, a commanding market-share lead, and fully booked advanced capacity all point to a company firmly in control of its corner of the semiconductor industry.

The ASML partnership adds another layer of confidence, showing TSMC is planning years ahead to stay on top of the technology curve.
