What Happened?
Robinhood (NASDAQ: HOOD) announced on Tuesday that users will soon be able to trade some U.S. stocks on weekends. This is the first time the platform has offered weekend trading.
Robinhood has allowed round-the-clock trading on weekdays since 2023.
About 10 months after that launch, the company said up to 25% of daily trading volume on busy days came from outside normal market hours.
The weekend feature will start with a curated list of stocks and ETFs. It’s being built with Bruce ATS, an overnight trading infrastructure firm, and is still pending regulatory review.
Robinhood also announced several other features:
- Robinhood Social: The platform’s trading community will roll out to all eligible U.S. customers after a beta earlier this year.
- Earnings bets: Through a partnership with Cboe, users can bet on whether a company beats earnings estimates or hits a revenue target.
- Perpetual futures: Eligible U.S. customers will be able to trade these contracts, which, unlike regular futures, have no expiration date.
- AI agents: Users can build agents inside the app that place trades for them.

Abhishek Fatehpuria, vice president of product management, said the goal is to give active traders tools usually reserved for hedge funds and big trading firms.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Robinhood Stock
For Robinhood stock, this fits a clear strategy. On the Q2 earnings call, CEO Vlad Tenev said being number one for active traders is one of the company’s top three priorities.
The broader industry is moving the same way. Nasdaq and the London Stock Exchange are both working to extend trading hours.
SEC Chair Paul Atkins recently argued that waiting until Monday morning to react to news can mean missed opportunities or extra risk.
There are concerns, though. Fewer traders are active outside normal hours, so weekend prices may be less favorable.
Robinhood’s business is strong going into this push. In Q2, revenue grew 32% to a record $1.3 billion. Net deposits hit a record $22 billion, and Gold subscribers reached 4.8 million. Adjusted EBITDA rose 35% to $741 million, a 57% margin.

The new features also build on products that are already gaining traction. Prediction markets set volume records in Q2, and nearly 2 million people have now used them.
More than 100,000 users have opened AI agent trading accounts.
Robinhood stock investors will want to see how quickly regulators approve weekend trading and how much new activity it brings.
If these tools catch on the way weekday overnight trading did, Robinhood stock could benefit from higher trading volumes over time.
