What Happened?

Morgan Stanley cut its price target on CoreWeave (CRWV) to $70 from $99 and kept its “Equalweight” rating.

Analyst Keith Weiss pointed to growing uncertainty around financing, which makes it harder to see how the company will deploy the capacity it has already contracted.

CoreWeave carries $51.6 billion in debt and is burning through cash quickly, while its current ratio is just 0.46.

CoreWeave stock now trades around $54, down more than 50% over six months and close to its 52-week low.

Weiss said execution has been solid, and he also called CoreWeave the speed and scale leader in a crowded field of neocloud companies.

But the financing worries also reach the company’s long-term goal of 8 GW of active capacity.

The company’s own Q2 call shows why money matters so much. CoreWeave reported revenue of $2.6 billion, up 112% from a year earlier.

Backlog hit $104.2 billion, and capital spending in the quarter was $9.4 billion. Interest expense grew to $640 million, and net loss was $626 million.

CRWV Stock Revenue, EBIT and Free Cash Flow Estimates in Billion USD (TIKR)

Management says it raised about $18 billion in Q2 through debt, convertibles, and equity. It also expects 2026 capital spending of $35 billion to $39 billion.

Other analysts disagree on what comes next:

  • HSBC has a Reduce rating and a $39 target, citing valuation.
  • BofA has a Buy rating and a $140 target as it estimates CoreWeave needs another $20 billion in funding.
  • Cantor Fitzgerald has an Overweight rating and a $176 target. It notes demand is strong, but also flags a debt yield of 15%.

What the Market Is Telling Us About CoreWeave Stock

The market is treating debt as the main risk for CoreWeave stock right now.

Morgan Stanley noted that AI-linked debt issuance may reach $466 billion in 2026, while trading in credit default swaps tied to AI debt has also jumped.

Costs for names like CoreWeave and Microsoft have hit record highs.

So the debate is not about demand. Even the cautious analysts agree demand is strong, and the question is whether CoreWeave can fund its build-out at a reasonable cost.
