What Happened?

Ukraine’s military is dealing with speed limits on Starshield, the military version of SpaceX’s (SPCX) Starlink.

Starshield receivers stop working when they move faster than 160 kilometers per hour (100 mph), which hurts drones used for strikes and some fast interceptors that defend cities.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that Elon Musk had restored service. Ukrainian defense and military sources told Reuters on Friday that the limits are still in place.

Nobody has taken responsibility for the decision, and Reuters reported the order came from inside the White House.

The Wall Street Journal reported Musk ordered it himself, while Musk says the U.S. government owns and controls Starshield.

Trump denies being involved. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the decision was up to SpaceX and Musk.

Ukraine uses Starlink for frontline communication and Starshield for military uses. Starshield-enabled drones have helped Ukraine hit moving targets, such as Russian supply trucks and trains.

The Pentagon is Starshield’s largest customer and has also clashed with SpaceX over pricing.

SpaceX argued some customers paying about $5,000 per terminal should use Starshield services that cost five times as much.

What the Market Is Telling Us About SpaceX Stock

For SpaceX stock, this story is about reputation and politics more than near-term sales.

Starlink is the company’s main profit engine, with more than 11,000 satellites and roughly 13 million subscribers.

The government link raises questions about how much control SpaceX has over how its products are used.

The latest earnings show how big the business has become.

In Q3, SpaceX reported revenue of $14.6 billion, up 161%. Net income was $4.4 billion and adjusted EBITDA was $8.8 billion.

Connectivity brought in $5.2 billion, while enterprise and government revenue grew 91% from a year earlier.

Management said that growth was helped by Starshield with the U.S. government, which makes the Pentagon relationship important to SpaceX stock.

Spending is also heavy. Q3 capital spending was $19.6 billion, and management expects it to surpass $35 billion in Q4.
