Key Takeaways
- Mastercard launched its Global Money Platform with BVNK on October 15, letting businesses hold, convert, and spend stablecoins across its network.
- Q2 net revenue rose 14% to $9.3 billion, while value-added services grew 18%, more than double the payment network’s 8%.
- At 29.1x forward earnings and a record $620 share price, the stock leaves little room for a soft quarter.
- The October 29 Q3 report will show whether growth held at the high end of guidance.
Mastercard (MA) wants to move every kind of money, not just card swipes.
The stock closed at a record $620 on October 20, just below its 52-week high of $624. Shares have returned 20.5% over the past six months.
The latest step came on October 15, when Mastercard launched its Global Money Platform with BVNK. It bought the stablecoin company in August for up to $1.8 billion.
Stablecoins plug into the network
The platform gives banks, fintechs, and businesses one API, or software connection, for both fiat and stablecoins. It includes:
- Accounts that hold dollars and stablecoins side by side, with real-time conversion
- Stablecoin-linked cards issued in more than 130 countries
- Local bank payouts through Mastercard Move, which reaches more than 17 billion endpoints
Marqeta (MQ) and Nuvei are among the first users. BVNK cofounder Chris Harmse said in the launch release that it will serve “every form of money.”
Investors have liked where this is heading…

Shares have climbed about 33% from the 52-week low of $465, and most of that gain came after the Q2 beat in late July.

Cross-border is the real prize
Stablecoins matter most when money crosses borders, and that is already a strong lane for Mastercard. In Q2, net revenue rose 14% to $9.3 billion while cross-border volume grew 12%.
The faster growth sits in services…

Value-added services and solutions grew 18% in Q2, compared with 8% for the payment network. New risk tools like Stablecoin Security land in that faster bucket.
Competition is close, though. Visa (V) launched its own stablecoin platform in July and began commercial stablecoin funding through Visa Direct on October 15.
The price already assumes success
Mastercard did not say how much revenue the platform will bring in. Payouts in more than 40 currencies are planned for 2027, so any real contribution is likely years away.
Meanwhile, the multiple has stretched…

Shares trade at 29.1x forward earnings. The average analyst target of $674 implies only about 9% upside.
My take: Mastercard is building the right bridge, and a nearly 60% operating margin gives it room to spend. But at a record price, a soft quarter would hurt more than any stablecoin headline helps.
The next checkpoint is the October 29 Q3 report. Management guided to the high end of low-double-digit currency-neutral growth, so cross-border volume will show whether momentum held.
