What Happened?

Compass (COMP) stock fell 11.8% on Feb. 23 and closed at $9. The stock is now near its $6 52-week low of $5.66. It’s also down about 34.9% from the $13.96 52-week high.

The pullback follows a legal setback earlier in February tied to Compass’s dispute with Zillow. A federal judge denied Compass’s request for a preliminary injunction that would have required Zillow to list more homes, and the lawsuit is expected to continue. The ruling centered on Compass not showing it was likely to succeed on key antitrust claims, according to Reuters.

Investors are also looking ahead to Compass’s next earnings update. Compass said it plans to release Q4 and full-year 2025 results after market close on Feb. 26, followed by a conference call the same day. That timing can increase volatility as traders adjust their positioning in the report.

Finally, Compass has had several major corporate events recently that have influenced sentiment. The company completed its all-stock combination with Anywhere Real Estate on Jan. 9. Compass also priced an $850 million convertible senior notes offering on Jan. 8 as part of its financing activities.

COMP Stock Price Targets (TIKR)

Targets have moved higher over the past year, even as the stock stayed volatile. The mean target rose from $7.41 at 12/31/24 to $14.45 at 2/23/26. The number of estimates also increased to 11 from 8 over that span, based on the Street Targets image.

The target range shows analysts still disagree on outcomes. The high target is $17 and the low target is $10. Recommendations also remain mixed, with Buy/Outperform/Hold ratings all represented in the latest snapshot.

Even so, the target-to-price gap widened because the stock sold off into late February. The Street target/price ratio is about 159.2% at 2/23/26. That ratio has fluctuated as both the share price and targets moved over time.

What the Market Is Telling Us About COMP Stock

Compass is showing improving profitability metrics versus prior years, but margins remain thin. LTM gross margin is 12.2%, and LTM EBIT margin is -1.3%. The company’s operating loss narrowed versus earlier periods, based on the trend in operating income.

Cash flow has improved meaningfully in the last year. Compass generated $187.8 million of LTM free cash flow, versus negative free cash flow in 2022 and 2021. That shift has been a key part of the company’s stabilization narrative.

Balance sheet leverage is also a focus, given the company’s capital structure. TIKR shows LTM net debt of about $310.7 million and LTM net debt/EBITDA of 2.33x. Compass also has a large share count of 563.3 million shares outstanding, which can matter for per-share metrics.

Investors are also weighing execution risk around strategic initiatives. Compass completed its all-stock combination with Anywhere Real Estate in January, which expands the platform and footprint. At the same time, integration costs and competitive dynamics in listings remain live issues, as highlighted by the ongoing Zillow dispute.
