Why Coherent Stock Jumped 10% on Bernstein’s Outperform Call and PhotonLink
Coherent (COHR) stock jumped 10% to $319 on Thursday, October 1, after Bernstein initiated coverage at Outperform with a $350 price target, turning attention to the PhotonLink platform Coherent launched ten days earlier.
Bernstein also started Lumentum and Ciena at Outperform and called optical suppliers “structural winners” from accelerating AI infrastructure buildouts.
PhotonLink bundles lasers, silicon photonics, specialty fiber and assembly into one offering. It targets co-packaged optics (CPO), which put the optical engine in the same package as the switch chip, and near-packaged optics (NPO), which mount it right next to that package.
Coherent reports more than 10 customer engagements in each architecture, including anchor customers with long-term agreements, and expects PhotonLink revenue to start ramping in the fourth quarter of calendar 2026.
CEO Jim Anderson pitched it in the launch release: “Customers need complete optical solutions, not just individual components.” That bundle is the bet, and the December quarter delivers the first revenue read on it.
So Coherent stock now trades on a launch whose revenue ramp has not started and a Bernstein target only 10% away.
TIKR Values Coherent Stock at $1,130, Far Above Bernstein’s $350 Target
TIKR’s mid-case model values Coherent stock at $1,130 by June 2031, implying a 254% total return from the current price of $319, or 31% annualized over 4.7 years.

That 31% annual rate runs well above the 10% a year the broad market has historically delivered.
Bernstein’s $350 target arrived ten days after a launch with no PhotonLink revenue behind it. The TIKR model runs to June 2031, long enough for the ramp that starts in the fourth quarter to reach scale, and $319 sits well short of that outcome.
