What Happened?

Best Buy (BBY) stock is getting a boost after the company posted a strong fiscal Q2 and raised its full-year outlook.

  • The consumer electronics retailer reported adjusted earnings of $1.47 per share, beating Wall Street’s $1.38 estimate.
  • Revenue came in at $9.78 billion, ahead of the $9.59 billion analysts had forecast.
  • Comparable sales grew 4.1% during the quarter, a big jump from the company’s earlier guidance of just 1% growth.
  • Best Buy said growth showed up across all its major categories, with a surge in computing, especially laptops, driving much of that strength.
  • The company also saw a higher-than-expected adjusted operating income rate for the quarter.
  • Net income for the quarter came in at $315 million, or $1.48 per share, up sharply from $186 million, or 87 cents per share, in the same quarter last year.
  • Gross profit also got a $34 million lift from tariff refunds.

Given the strong first half, Best Buy raised its full-year guidance. The company now expects revenue between $42.3 billion and $42.8 billion, up from its prior range of $41.2 billion to $42.1 billion.

It also raised its comparable sales forecast to 1.9% to 3% growth, a notable improvement from its earlier guidance, which ranged from a 1% decline to a 1% increase.

Full-year adjusted earnings per share are now expected between $6.70 and $6.90, up from the prior range of $6.30 to $6.60.

This quarter also marked the last one under current CEO Corie Barry. Incoming CEO Jason Bonfig takes over on November 1, part of a broader plan to speed up growth at the company. Bonfig said the strong quarter reflects both deliberate moves to position the business for growth and a healthy demand environment for the category.

Despite the strong results, Best Buy noted that customers are still shopping carefully, focused on value and sales rather than spending freely.

The company also continues to face industry-wide pressures, including tariffs and rising memory chip prices, both of which have squeezed margins across the electronics sector.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Best Buy Stock

The jump in Best Buy stock reflects real relief after a rough stretch for the retailer.

Best Buy has struggled with declining foot traffic and softer consumer confidence in recent quarters, so a beat this strong, paired with raised guidance, signals the turnaround plan may be gaining traction.

Bonfig has been vocal about his confidence in refreshing the company, including opening smaller-format stores to reach areas that can’t support a full-sized location.

He’s also said he wants to use artificial intelligence to improve both the in-store experience and behind-the-scenes corporate processes.

Investors watching Best Buy stock will likely be paying close attention to how these initiatives play out under new leadership, especially as the company navigates tariffs and chip pricing pressures heading into the back half of the year.
