What Happened?
Vicor (VICR) stock jumped 11% after the company announced it’s buying two properties in New Hampshire to build new chip fabrication plants.
This is a big deal because Vicor stock has been climbing toward a capacity wall, and investors clearly like the growth plan.
Here’s the breakdown. Vicor is purchasing a 334,000-square-foot building on 66 acres in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
It’s also picking up 54 acres in Hooksett, New Hampshire.
Together, these two sites will house new facilities called ChiP Fab-2 and Fab-3, totaling nearly one million square feet of combined space.
For context, that’s a massive jump from what Vicor has today. Its current facility, ChiP Fab-1 in Andover, Massachusetts, sits on just 320,000 square feet across 16 acres.
According to the company, Fab-1 is nearing full capacity, which is exactly why this expansion matters so much for Vicor stock right now.
Management said Fab-2 will take about one year to get up and running.
The goal is straightforward: give original equipment manufacturers and hyperscalers more power delivery solutions built specifically for AI applications, an area where demand keeps outpacing supply.
There’s also a supply chain angle here. Vicor said the new facilities will help customers who want products sourced in the U.S. and what the company calls “Freedom to Operate.”
That phrase matters because Vicor pointed out that some computing systems from major manufacturers have been banned from import because power suppliers infringed on Vicor’s patents.
In other words, owning more U.S.-based manufacturing capacity gives customers a cleaner, legally safer supply chain, and that’s a real selling point for Vicor stock going forward.

This expansion news also lines up with what executives have been saying on recent earnings calls.
CEO Patrizio Vinciarelli has said the company needs a second fab to hit its long-term target of $2.5 billion in revenue, since the current facility alone can’t get there.
He also said the company was choosing between several site options and expected to decide soon, so today’s announcement confirms that plan is moving forward.
Vinciarelli has said the new site could support 2x to 3x the capacity of the first fab, built out in stages rather than all at once.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Vicor Stock
The market’s reaction shows investors see this as a genuine growth signal, not just a real estate purchase.
Vicor makes power components for AI data centers, aerospace, defense, and industrial equipment, and demand in those markets has been outpacing what the company can currently produce.
Adding capacity directly addresses that bottleneck.

The jump in Vicor stock also reflects growing confidence that the company can keep scaling its licensing and manufacturing business together.
With Fab-1 nearly maxed out, this move signals that management is serious about keeping pace with AI-driven demand rather than turning away business because of limited capacity.
