Trade Desk Stock Has Lost 76% in a Year as Growth Slowed and Guidance Cratered

TTD Stock Price: 1-Year (TIKR)

Trade Desk (TTD) stock has fallen 76% over the past year, closing at $14 on August 28 after a Q2 earnings report that missed on both revenue and earnings and delivered a Q3 guide far below what the Street expected.

The damage accelerated on August 7, when shares plunged 22% in a single session. Q2 revenue came in at $715 million, up just 3% year over year, missing the $751 million consensus by 5%. Adjusted EPS of $0.34 fell short of the $0.40 estimate. The Q3 guide cut deeper: management projected revenue of at least $650 million, 19% below the Street’s $805 million forecast.

CEO Jeff Green addressed the shortfall on the Q2 earnings call: “Our revenue growth is below our expectations and below the standard we hold ourselves to.” He pointed to CPGs and autos, two categories that together account for roughly 25% of Trade Desk’s revenue, as bearing the brunt of tariff-driven cost pressure and a widening gap between affluent and lower-income consumers. Some of those brands have retreated to cheaper fixed-price media deals rather than the data-driven decisioning Trade Desk sells, a short-term cost play that trades away optimization for lower transaction fees.

The problems extend well beyond one quarter. Trade Desk stock peaked above $55 in October 2025 and has ground lower through each earnings cycle since, as revenue growth decelerated from double digits to just 3%. Publicis Groupe, one of the world’s largest ad holding companies, advised its clients against using the platform in March 2026 following an audit. Amazon’s competing demand-side platform has pulled advertisers with its proprietary shopper data. On August 10, Citi cut Trade Desk stock to sell with an $11 target while D.A. Davidson downgraded to neutral at $16.

The selloff has pushed the company’s market cap low enough to risk removal from the S&P 500, and with the stock at $14, the question is no longer when growth reaccelerates but whether it does at all.

A year ago, the consensus looked nothing like this. In June 2025, 23 analysts rated Trade Desk stock a buy and 4 rated it outperform, against 11 holds and 2 sells, with the mean target at $86 and the stock at $72.

Over the next fourteen months, as each quarter disappointed, buys collapsed from 23 to 4 and the mean target fell from $86 to $13. Coverage held steady at 30 estimates, so the analyst base didn’t walk away; it just stopped believing in the growth story. The mean target now trails the stock price, a sign the Street has fully priced out any near-term recovery.

TIKR Values Trade Desk Stock at $26, Nearly Double the Street’s $13 Target

TIKR’s mid-case model values Trade Desk stock at $26 by December 2030, implying 91% total return from the current $14 price, or 16% annualized over 4.3 years.

A 16% annualized return would place Trade Desk well above typical large-cap ad-tech returns, reflecting a bet that the company’s revenue trajectory inflects before the end of the decade.

The $13 gap between the model’s target and the Street’s mean is the widest Trade Desk stock has carried. The sell-side consensus has written off any growth recovery; the TIKR model has not, and the 91% implied return is the payoff for being right that 23 hold ratings and 5 sells mark a capitulation low rather than a correct read on terminal growth.
