What Happened?
SpaceX (SPCX) stock climbed 3% on Tuesday, breaking a seven-day losing streak that had pushed shares down to a 52-week low of $104.88.
Macquarie reiterated its outperform rating on the stock following the dip, giving investors a reason to step back in after a rough stretch that’s seen shares fall roughly 45% from their all-time high.
The bounce came alongside a busy day in orbit. SpaceX launched two Falcon 9 rockets within 24 hours, one carrying Northrop Grumman satellite-servicing equipment into geostationary transfer orbit, and another deploying 24 Starlink satellites from Vandenberg.
The Starlink business remains SpaceX’s biggest revenue driver, now serving more than 10 million subscribers through over 10,800 active satellites.
Still, the bigger story hanging over SpaceX stock is what happens next month.
- August 4 marks the company’s first-ever quarterly earnings report as a public company, and it also triggers the expiration of part of its IPO lock-up period.
- Under SpaceX’s staggered structure, insiders can begin selling up to 20% of their locked-up shares, roughly 911.5 million shares, starting August 6.
- That looming supply has made short sellers aggressive, with short interest now at a record 32% of the stock’s free float.
- Elon Musk has publicly warned short sellers that betting against SpaceX carries serious long-term risk, though that hasn’t slowed the bearish positioning so far.
Technical indicators suggest the stock may be getting oversold. The relative strength index sits at 36.1, close to levels some traders view as a buying signal. Volatility has also been extreme, with 30-day annualized volatility near 91%.

Before earnings and the lock-up expiration arrive, SpaceX has another major event on the calendar: the 13th test flight of Starship, now scheduled for July 23 after an earlier attempt was scrubbed due to engine ignition issues.
The main goal this time is a controlled water landing of the Starship upper stage, an important step toward proving the vehicle can be fully reused, something NASA is counting on for its Artemis III mission.

What the Market Is Telling Us About SpaceX Stock
Tuesday’s rally in SpaceX stock shows some investors think the recent selloff has gone too far, especially with Macquarie standing by its bullish call.
But the stock hasn’t broken its broader downtrend yet, and it remains well below both its all-time high and its IPO price of $135.

The next two weeks look pivotal.
A clean Starship test flight could build positive momentum heading into earnings, while a disappointing result could add to pressure right before the lock-up expiration floods the market with new shares.
For now, SpaceX stock is caught between real operational wins in space and a market bracing for a major supply shock on the ground.
