What Happened?

SoFi Technologies (SOFI) declined about 3.7% this week, with the stock trading near $18. The move comes after several recent developments across the company’s fintech ecosystem, including partnerships, insider transactions, and investor focus shifting back to the company’s fundamentals.

During the week, Reuters reported that SoFi partnered with Mastercard to enable settlement for its SoFiUSD stablecoin across Mastercard’s global payments network. The partnership is designed to help expand SoFi’s presence in digital payments infrastructure and support blockchain-based financial services. At the same time, BitGo was selected to provide custody and infrastructure services for the SoFiUSD stablecoin.

Investor attention also focused on insider activity at the company. Reuters reported that CEO Anthony Noto purchased additional shares, while another executive sold shares during the same period. Insider purchases are often interpreted by investors as a sign of management confidence, though the mixed activity did little to change sentiment during the week.

SOFI Total Revenues (TIKR)

The stock’s movement also comes after strong fourth-quarter results reported in late January. Reuters reported that SoFi posted $1.02 billion in quarterly revenue, reflecting continued growth across lending, technology platform, and financial services segments. The company also reported full-year net income of about $0.48 billion, marking a significant turnaround after prior-year losses.

Is SOFI Stock Undervalued?

Under valuation model assumptions realized through 12/31/28, the stock is modeled using:

  • Revenue growth (CAGR): 22.9%
  • Operating margins: 24.8%
  • Exit P/E multiple: 31.3x

Based on these inputs, the model estimates a target price of $36.35, implying 92.3% total upside from the current share price and a 26.1% annualized return over the next 2.8 years.

SOFI Guided Valuation Model (TIKR)

SoFi’s future results will likely depend on continued expansion in its lending and financial services ecosystem. Net interest income reached $2.22 billion over the last twelve months, reflecting strong growth as the company expanded loan originations and deposit balances.

Deposits have become a key driver of the business model. Total deposits rose to about $37.5 billion, which helps lower funding costs compared with relying on wholesale borrowing. That structure gives SoFi an advantage as interest rates shift and lending demand fluctuates.

The company’s technology platform also contributes to growth. Through Galileo and Technisys, SoFi provides banking infrastructure to other fintech companies, which generates recurring revenue from software and transaction services.

Competition remains intense across the fintech and consumer finance space. Companies such as Ally Financial, LendingClub, and Upstart operate in similar markets, but SoFi currently trades at a forward P/E of about 31x, higher than many peers. That premium reflects expectations that the company can continue scaling its integrated digital financial platform.
