What Happened?

IREN (IREN) stock dropped 13% on Friday after fiscal 2026 results showed a sharp swing from profit to loss.

The company posted a net loss of $702.6 million, compared to an $86.9 million profit the year before, while revenue actually grew 41.1% to $707 million,

The loss came mostly from a $639 million non-cash impairment tied to retiring Bitcoin mining hardware, something the company expects to complete by the end of December.

Buried inside that messy headline number is a real milestone. For the first time, IREN’s AI cloud revenue, at $70.5 million, topped its Bitcoin mining revenue of $66.7 million. That’s the clearest sign yet that IREN stock is no longer really a crypto mining bet.

It’s becoming an AI infrastructure play, and the accounting charges reflect that transition rather than any operational weakness.

That pivot isn’t cheap, though. Management guided to $25 billion to $30 billion in capital spending for the year ahead, mostly for building out liquid-cooled data centers.

IREN stock has also come under pressure following the completed $625 million Mirantis acquisition, which added cloud software capabilities, and after delivering its first data center, “Horizon 1,” to Microsoft.

Both moves, despite being growth positives, have been read by the market as added cost and execution risk.

What the Market Is Telling Us About IREN Stock

The market’s reaction shows real uncertainty about how IREN plans to fund this next phase of growth.

The company ended the year with $7.6 billion in cash, and just secured another $2.4 billion in financing led by Blue Owl Capital and PIMCO, though at a fairly steep 9% interest rate. That rate suggests lenders see meaningful risk here, even as they remain willing to write the check.

At the same time, IREN stock is backed by $4 billion in contracted annual recurring revenue, with $1 billion already in operation.

Analysts are split on what this means. H.C. Wainwright reaffirmed a Buy rating with a $90 price target, calling the sell-off a buying opportunity. J.P. Morgan, meanwhile, kept an Underweight rating with a target of just $46.

IREN Stock Street Target (TIKR)

That gap in analyst opinion sums up where IREN stock stands today.

The AI cloud business is growing fast and now leads mining in revenue, but the capital needed to keep building is enormous.

Whether that spending turns into durable, high-margin growth, or an overextended bet, is the question dividing investors right now.
