What Happened?
Robinhood Markets (HOOD) has put $25 million of corporate cash into Bitcoin. Johann Kerbrat, senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international, disclosed the purchase to The Block on October 7, 2026. The stock closed down 2.22% at $109.51 that day, about ten times the 0.22% declines in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. Bitcoin fell below $83,000 after roughly $696 million in liquidations over 24 hours, per Coinglass data, and Coinbase (COIN) and Strategy (MSTR) fell with it.
Kerbrat played the purchase down himself: “the $25 million worth of bitcoin is not going to change a lot of the current trajectory of the company.” The bigger crypto signal sits in Robinhood’s investor relations materials, where Q3 trading data shows a rebound the October 7 selloff ignored.
Q3 Crypto Volume Has Already Passed Q2
Robinhood’s crypto notional volume (app plus Bitstamp) was $10.9 billion in July and $17.5 billion in August. Another $17 billion traded from September 1 through September 24. That puts Q3 at roughly $45 billion with six days uncounted, already above Q2’s $40 billion. The recovery is partial: August volume was still down 38% from a year earlier, and Q2 crypto revenue fell 38% to $100 million.
Vlad Tenev, Robinhood’s CEO, chairman, and co-founder, told the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference on September 9 that “our crypto business is very significant business.” Offering futures, spot, and prediction markets in one place, he said, is “sort of a complete solution for crypto traders.” Perpetual futures were unveiled at HOOD Summit on September 29 and will reach eligible U.S. customers “in the coming months.”
Event contracts also passed Q2’s record of 13.6 billion, with at least 15.2 billion traded in Q3 through September 24. Sports contracts face state pushback, though. Robinhood stopped offering new sports contracts in Michigan on September 9 and must close remaining positions by October 9. Ohio has also ordered it to stop by October 16.

Robinhood Chain Is Running Into the SEC’s Volume Caps
Stock tokens on Robinhood Chain, the company’s blockchain, face a different ceiling. Kerbrat said stock-token volume is “already pretty high and will hit some of its limits” under the SEC’s innovation exemption for tokenized U.S. equities. Total value locked on the chain reached $1.05 billion as of October 6, according to The Block’s data.
Tenev said he sees a path for the chain to speed Robinhood toward half its business coming from outside the U.S. and, cut another way, half from institutions. Stock-token volume, he added, is still a “vanishingly small percentage of the total equities market in size.” Most chain activity pays fees to third-party apps, and Robinhood has not yet reported chain revenue separately. Analysts expect total Q3 revenue of about $1.41 billion, up around 11% after 32% growth in Q2.

This article uses the mid case because it assumes neither a full crypto recovery nor a sports-contract shutdown. Its forecast table assumes around 10% annual revenue growth through 2035 and a net income margin near 43%. Wall Street’s mean target is around $134 across 28 estimates, with ratings at 18 Buy, 6 Outperform, 4 Hold, 1 Underperform, and 1 Sell.
The primary risk is regulation reaching more of Robinhood’s newest products, from sports contracts to tokenized stocks. On the upside, crypto volume climbing back toward last year’s levels would make 10% growth easier to reach. On the downside, more states shutting sports contracts while crypto stays below last year would put it at risk.
Conclusion
Full September operating data arrives with Q3 results on October 27 after the close. Crypto revenue above Q2’s $100 million would confirm the volume rebound. Revenue short of the roughly $1.41 billion consensus would mean the October 7 selloff read Robinhood correctly.
