Key Takeaways for Pfizer Stock as of August 2026

  • Mixed Bottom Line: Pfizer’s Q2 revenue hit $15.03B, beating Street estimates by 4.49%, and adjusted EPS reached $0.77, topping estimates by 12.87%, but GAAP EPS swung to a $0.04 loss after a $4.3B noncash impairment tied to the SV lung cancer trial miss.
  • Guidance Raised, COVID Cut: Pfizer lifted full-year revenue guidance to $60.5B-$62.5B from $59.5B-$60.5B and held adjusted EPS guidance at $2.80-$3.00, even as it slashed its COVID revenue outlook to ~$4B from ~$5B.
  • Launched Products Surge: Revenue from the Seagen, Metsera and Biohaven deals grew 18% operationally to $3.2B in the quarter, or 27% excluding a year-ago one-time stocking benefit.
  • CFO Handoff, Beat Streak Intact: With Dave Denton departing and Cecile Guegan stepping in as interim CFO, CEO Albert Bourla noted Pfizer beat adjusted EPS estimates in all 10 of the last 10 quarters.

Pfizer’s writedown on its lung cancer bet is the kind of headline that spooks a screener and misses the point entirely. Track the numbers behind Pfizer stock’s guidance raise and pipeline reset on TIKR for free →

SV’s Trial Miss Forced a $4.3 Billion Writedown Even as Pfizer’s Core Business Outran Guidance

Pfizer (PFE) stock heads into August 2026 off a second quarter that beat on both lines yet still produced a GAAP loss, a split that defined the August 4 earnings call. Revenue reached $15.03 billion, 4.49% above Street estimates and up 2.60% year over year, while adjusted diluted earnings per share of $0.77 topped estimates by 12.87%.

The headline miss sat two lines down. Reported EPS fell to negative $0.04, a swing management tied to a $4.3 billion noncash intangible impairment. That charge followed two setbacks: sigvotatug vedotin (SV), Pfizer’s lung cancer antibody-drug conjugate, missed its primary overall survival endpoint in second-line non-small cell lung cancer, and Pfizer pulled its revenue forecast for Oxbryta after discussions with the FDA. Chief Scientific Officer Chris Boshoff pointed to a silver lining buried in the SV data: patients on just one prior therapy line showed a 2.5-month survival edge over docetaxel, 13.6 months versus 11.1 months, and updated Phase I data pairing SV with pembrolizumab produced an 82% unconfirmed response rate in first-line lung cancer.

The setback wasn’t the whole pipeline story. Litfulo, Pfizer’s oral treatment for nonsegmental vitiligo, restored skin pigmentation in significantly more patients than placebo across two late-stage trials, giving the company a shot at a dermatology market with few approved options, a pipeline shift behind the 15% upside case for Pfizer stock.

For PFE stock, that reframes SV as a pipeline setback rather than a balance sheet one. The underlying business kept accelerating through it. Excluding COVID products, revenue grew 5% operationally, and the Seagen, Metsera and Biohaven acquisitions combined for 18% operational growth to $3.2 billion, or 27% stripping out a year-ago one-time item in the legacy Seagen portfolio.

That strength let interim CFO Cecile Guegan raise full-year revenue guidance to $60.5 billion to $62.5 billion from $59.5 billion to $60.5 billion, even while cutting the COVID revenue outlook to roughly $4 billion from $5 billion. Adjusted diluted EPS guidance held at $2.80 to $3.00, a range that now absorbs a roughly $0.10 hit from the $650 million upfront payment tied to July’s Innovent Biologics transaction.

The quarter also closed a chapter for Pfizer’s finance function. Dave Denton’s planned exit handed the CFO seat to Guegan on an interim basis, and Bourla framed the handoff against a longer consistency streak on the Q2 earnings call: “this is the ninth time we exceeded consensus expectations for revenues in the last 10 quarters, and we have beaten expectations for adjusted diluted EPS in all 10 of the 10 past quarters.” Cost discipline backs that streak: Pfizer now targets $9.7 billion in combined net savings from its productivity and manufacturing programs through 2029, funding R&D spending that rose 12% operationally in the quarter.

TIKR Prices Pfizer Stock at $28, Pointing to Muted Upside Through 2030

TIKR’s mid-case model values Pfizer at $28 by December 2030, implying an 12% total return from the current price of $25, or a 2.5% annualized return over 4.4 years.

That annualized rate is thin for a large-cap pharmaceutical name carrying an active dividend, positioning Pfizer stock closer to a income holding than a growth reprice over the model’s window.

The case for reaching $28 leans on the same dynamics the quarter just showed: guidance moving higher on non-COVID strength, $9.7 billion in booked cost savings through 2029, and a launched-product base growing 18% operationally even as legacy patent expirations weigh on the base business. The SV impairment caps near-term upside without breaking the thesis, since management’s own bottoms-up case for growth resuming still points past 2028.

Pfizer’s mid-case target leaves limited room for error before 2030, which raises the stakes on quarters like this one. Compare Pfizer stock’s $28 target against your own model on TIKR for free
