What Happened?
A Taiwan union says its members have voted to strike at Micron (MU). The news is weighing on Micron stock, which was down more than 2% in US premarket trading on Wednesday.
The union represents workers at Micron’s Taoyuan operations. It said 1,994 members, or 99% of those who voted, backed a strike. The timing and details are still under discussion.
The fight is over bonuses. Micron announced fiscal 2026 rewards in September, including a T$1 million cash bonus for Taiwan employees.
The union says that is not enough. It wants a permanent profit-sharing plan. It also criticized Micron for announcing the rewards while mediation was still underway.
Mediation with the Taoyuan union ended in September without a deal. A second union, in Taichung, is still negotiating.
Together, the two unions represent more than 80% of Micron’s Taiwan workforce.

Micron said it takes employees’ concerns seriously.
It plans another mediation session with the Taichung union later this month. The union is also urging members to take October 19 off to join a rally in Taipei. It says the rally is not a strike.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Micron Stock
Taiwan matters a lot to Micron. It is a key production center for DRAM and HBM chips used in AI servers.
Reuters notes a strike could add to supply worries in an already tight memory market. That is why Micron stock reacted.
The business itself is very strong right now. In fiscal Q4, revenue hit a record $54.2 billion, up 379% from a year ago. Gross margin was 87%. Earnings per share came in at $33.42.
Management expects even more. It guided fiscal Q1 revenue to $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion.
It also said supply will stay tight through 2027 and 2028. Over 75% of its 2027 output is already committed.
Micron also said it raised fiscal 2026 incentive pay for every global team member. That fits the bonus talks, though management did not link it to the labor dispute.

For Micron stock, the main question is how long the dispute lasts. A quick deal would remove the risk.
A real strike could disrupt supply when customers want more chips. Micron stock may swing on any news from the Taoyuan or Taichung talks.
