Why Lumentum Stock Has Rallied 128% Since the Start of 2026

LITE Stock Price: Year to Date (TIKR)

Lumentum Holdings (LITE) stock has climbed 128% since the start of January, closing at $881.26 on September 4 and ranking among the sharpest moves in the optical networking group this year. The rally did not come from a single headline. It built through the year on a widening AI infrastructure story, then accelerated hard after back to back earnings beats.

A key early catalyst arrived in March, when Nvidia announced a multiyear strategic agreement with Lumentum and said it would invest $2 billion directly into the company to fund research, capacity and operations. That deal reframed Lumentum from a components supplier riding AI demand into a named partner inside Nvidia’s optics road map, and the stock nearly doubled that quarter.

Two quarters of blowout results kept the move going. Fiscal third quarter results in May topped estimates, then August’s fourth quarter report showed revenue surging 109% year over year to $1.01 billion against a Street estimate of $987.9 million, with adjusted earnings per share of $3.23 beating the $2.97 consensus. Guidance for the December quarter called for revenue of $1.225 billion to $1.275 billion, more than 130% above the year ago period, and the stock jumped nearly 16% the next trading day, the second largest gain in the S&P 500 that session.

Management framed the acceleration as a reset in earnings power, not just a good quarter. At Deutsche Bank’s technology conference in late August, CEO Michael Hurlston told investors that “in 2028, we figured that we can now deliver $40 of earnings power, a very, very significant number and a take-up, I think, against all the sell-side analysts in terms of where we think our earnings power can be.” That comment, tied mainly to surging demand for Lumentum’s optical circuit switches, is what pushed several sell-side desks to raise targets within days of the August print.

Not everyone is riding the wave without taking chips off the table. President of Global Business Units Wupen Yuen sold shares in three separate transactions between August 24 and September 4, worth a combined $3.9 million, while General Counsel Jae Kim disposed of more than $10 million in stock over roughly the same stretch. Insider selling into a 128% rally is not a red flag by itself, but it is a supply fact worth noting against the buying that has pushed the stock higher.

The 128% run reflects a real reset in how the market prices Lumentum’s earnings power, but it also means the stock has moved from a cheap AI optics play to a name priced on scale up ambitions that have not shipped yet.

Wall Street Keeps Chasing Lumentum Stock’s Target Higher

Coverage on Lumentum stock stands at 26 analysts, split 17 buys, 5 outperforms, and 4 holds, with no sell or underperform ratings on the books. The mean target sits at $1,148, 30% above the September 4 close of $881.

That gap has swung around all year. In December, the mean target of $268 sat 31% below the $391 close, meaning the stock had already run ahead of what analysts were willing to underwrite. Targets caught up by March, when the $696 mean essentially matched the $703 close. They then jumped further, hitting $1,111 by June, 36% above that quarter’s price, and coverage has since grown from 23 analysts in March to 26 today. The current 30% gap marks a pullback from June’s premium even though the mean target itself climbed another $37 over the past ten weeks, evidence the Street keeps raising the bar rather than declaring the repricing finished.

TIKR Values Lumentum Stock at $4,389 on an AI Optics Supercycle

TIKR’s mid case model values Lumentum stock at $4,389 by mid-2032, implying 398% total return from the current $881 price, or 40% annualized over the next 5.8 years.

The forward multiple tells a cheaper story than the price alone suggests. Lumentum’s NTM P/E has fallen to 41x from 60x in December and an 80x peak earlier in 2026, so earnings estimates have climbed faster than the 128% price gain since January. That compression means the model’s 40% return doesn’t need the multiple to expand, just the earnings reset to keep showing up in estimates.

The model’s conviction leans on the same earnings power reset that pulled 26 analysts to a $1,148 mean target and drove the stock up 128% since January, just extended further: OCS, CPO and NPO deployments that barely register in today’s revenue. TIKR’s target prices in a scale up cycle that management itself has only begun to guide toward, which is why the 30% gap to the Street’s target reads as the easy first leg of the trade rather than the whole of it.
