What Happened?
IREN Limited (IREN) closed at $38.69 on October 7, 2026, down 6.27%. The morning loss looked like a sector move: Benzinga, writing with the stock down 2.71%, pointed to profit-taking across AI infrastructure names. The afternoon slide was company-specific. SemiAnalysis posted a thread on X citing user reports of reliability problems at IREN’s British Columbia sites, and TipRanks tied the stock’s drop of more than 6% to those posts. Stocktwits reported shares down another 1.2% before the October 8 open. Neither outlet reported a response from IREN, and its investor relations materials show no release on the claims.

What SemiAnalysis Alleged About Prince George and Mackenzie
Per TipRanks and Stocktwits, SemiAnalysis said users described extended power outages, network upgrades, and storage failures at Prince George and Mackenzie, calling them the “#1 worst site in the industry.” It said many unhappy users rented directly from IREN rather than through resellers.
The same thread said IREN’s newer Texas sites at Childress and Sweetwater “look much better.” Childress hosts the Horizon buildings for Microsoft (MSFT). The claims are user reports compiled by a research firm, not audited outage data or a customer termination.
British Columbia Is Part of the December-Quarter Ramp
The sites matter because IREN is counting on them now. On the August 27 call, Co-Founder and Co-CEO Daniel Roberts said GPUs had been racked across the first two Mackenzie buildings and Prince George’s liquid-cooled installation was underway. “All of that remaining capacity is targeted for the December quarter,” he said. Mackenzie is also the site behind IREN’s $2.4 billion GPU financing at a 9% fixed rate.
Roberts also cited retention as proof of delivery: “Existing customers keep coming back. Together, AI and Fireworks AI have both renewed and expanded.” Retention at the British Columbia sites is what the SemiAnalysis claims to put in question.
The numbers leave little room for slippage. IREN has missed consensus EBITDA in each of the last four quarters, per TIKR, and the June-quarter EBITDA of $19.20 million came in 54.09% below the $41.82 million estimate. Consensus now expects quarterly EBITDA to climb from around $65 million in the September quarter to around $193 million in December and around $683 million in March 2027.

The TIKR model’s mid case points to around $84 per share by June 30, 2031, about 118% above the October 7 close. Consensus revenue reaches around $14 billion in fiscal 2029, with 10 analysts contributing, as management targets about 1.2 gigawatts of gross capacity in 2027. Margins stay thin: fiscal 2031 consensus, where TIKR shows only two analysts on revenue, puts normalized net margin near 4%.
Upside comes if Childress and Sweetwater carry the ramp and the British Columbia customers keep renewing. Even the Street’s lowest target, $40, sits above the October 7 close, so the downside case is churn at the Canadian sites showing up as a fifth straight EBITDA miss. JonesTrading’s Kevin Dede rated IREN Hold in a September 28 initiation and sees Microsoft as the only investment-grade name among its customers.
Conclusion
Consensus expects September-quarter EBITDA of around $65 million from 13 analysts, with results expected around November 5, a date IREN has not confirmed. A figure at or above consensus, plus a direct account of uptime at Prince George and Mackenzie, would contain the damage. Another miss with no answer on the British Columbia sites would give the SemiAnalysis reports a number to point to.
