What Happened?
CoreWeave’s (CRWV) shares and bonds sold off last week, as the stock lost 25%.
Yields on its 2030 bonds jumped 500 basis points to near 16%, and the cost of insuring its debt against default rose to about 1,200 basis points. Reuters called that a sign of severe distress.
The trigger was Q3 reports from big cloud companies, where they hinted at data center delays and slower growth in capital spending.
Investors then went after “neoclouds” like CoreWeave, firms which borrow heavily to pay for chips, land and energy, while the income comes later.
CEO Mike Intrator told employees that markets can sometimes “misunderstand and act irrationally.” He also said the backlog more than covers the company’s debt.

CoreWeave has never turned a profit, according to LSEG data. In 2025, it had $5.1 billion in revenue and a $1.2 billion net loss.
Revenue should double this year, but capital spending is expected to rise fourfold, which means a higher cash outflow.
Investors also point to the $50 billion debt load, while some worry about “circular financing” between chipmakers and customers like Meta and OpenAI.
Hedge fund founder Alberto Gallo said CoreWeave will need a capital injection or a bailout, and his firm holds bets against CoreWeave bonds.
Gartner says CoreWeave is among the neoclouds most exposed to the gap between revenue and spending. It expects 80% of neocloud providers to stop operating independently by 2030.
News that Intrator has sold nearly $1 billion of stock since the IPO has not helped.
