Apple (AAPL) is already working on what comes after HomeView. In his Power On newsletter on Sunday, October 18, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans a higher-end HomeView with a roughly 9-inch screen on a motorized arm that turns a full 360 degrees, targeted for 2027 or 2028.
That lands five days after Apple launched the $299 HomeView, which has a fixed 7-inch screen and ships November 13. Apple hasn’t announced the larger model.
Apple’s Robot Is Running a Year Late
The device isn’t new. Gurman says it carries the code name J595, the same one he reported in August 2024, when Apple had several hundred people on a tabletop robot aimed at 2026 or 2027 and around $1,000. The robot has since become a premium HomeView, and its earliest date has slipped a year. Sunday’s report gave no price.
A Shrinking Segment Meets a Growing R&D Bill
Every HomeView reports into Wearables, Home and Accessories, a line that has gone backward.

Revenue peaked at $41.24 billion in fiscal 2022 and fell three straight years to $35.69 billion in fiscal 2025, down 13.5%. At the old $1,000 target, Apple would need to sell more than 5.5 million robot HomeViews a year just to get back to the 2022 level.

R&D spending has nearly doubled over the same stretch, from $21.91 billion in fiscal 2021 to $42.90 billion over the last 12 months. Apple doesn’t disclose what single projects cost, so the robot’s budget is unknown. The total keeps climbing while the segment sits below its 2022 peak.
Amazon Already Sold the Spinning Screen
Amazon (AMZN) charged $249.99 for a motorized Echo Show 10 that turned to follow the user, and it now sells the fixed Echo Show 11 for roughly $250 instead. Alexa, the assistant those screens run on, has lost money every year since its 2014 launch. If Apple asks anything near $1,000, the premium has to come from Siri AI, because the motor alone sold for a quarter of that.
The Price Apple Hasn’t Put on Its Robot HomeView
Price decides whether this device matters to the numbers. At $1,000, each million units adds about 2.8% to the segment. Near Amazon’s price, it mostly puts Siri in more rooms.
The robotic model reportedly won’t arrive before 2027, so the nearer test is the $299 HomeView. Its first quarter on shelves is the December quarter, against $11.49 billion of segment revenue a year earlier. That total also holds AirPods and Apple Watch, so management’s HomeView comments on that call will say more.
