What Happened?

Apple (AAPL) held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, and the headline was a long-awaited overhaul of Siri.

The new version, called “Siri AI,” can hold back-and-forth conversations, give detailed answers, and understand what’s on your screen. It also gets its own dedicated app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The bigger story is how Apple is building it. Apple confirmed a partnership to use Google’s Gemini models. Its most powerful new model, AFM Cloud Pro, will run on Nvidia chips inside Google’s cloud. Apple said this top model is similar in quality to Google’s best Gemini models.

Moreover, Apple showed off AI photo editing, smarter home security cameras, an agent that fixes weak passwords for you, and new parental controls.

Apple also renamed its Mac software “Golden Gate.” This was also Tim Cook’s final WWDC as CEO before John Ternus takes over in September.

So with all that good news, why did Apple stock fall? It looks like a classic “sell the news” reaction.

Apple stock had been climbing toward record highs for weeks, partly on excitement about this exact AI strategy.

The megacap tech stock initially moved as high as about $317 per share during the event, then reversed and closed down nearly 2%.

The main complaint from investors was timing.

Apple didn’t give a firm launch date for the full Siri AI rollout. Siri AI starts as a developer beta now, with regular users getting it this fall.

It also won’t launch in Europe or China at first because of regulations.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Apple Stock

The dip says expectations were already high. When a stock runs up before an event, even strong news can trigger profit-taking. That seems to be what happened to Apple stock here.

There’s also a real debate beneath the surface. Some analysts felt Siri AI looked roughly on par with what rivals already offer, not clearly ahead.

Others stayed bullish, citing record iPhone 17 sales, an all-time high in Services revenue, and the possibility that smarter AI could spark a wave of upgrades.

The recent business numbers back up the optimists. Last quarter, Apple posted revenue of $111.2 billion, up 17%, with iPhone sales jumping 22%.

For long-term investors weighing Apple stock, the question now is simple: can these AI features actually drive more device sales and revenue, and how soon?
