What Happened?
Marvell Technology (MRVL) stock is up about 8% in pre-market trading after S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the chipmaker would join the S&P 500 on June 22.
Flex, a contract manufacturer for Apple and Nvidia, will also join the index on the same date, with both companies replacing Pool Corp and Campbell’s.
The timing could hardly be better.
Earlier this week, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called Marvell the “next trillion-dollar company” when discussing the two chipmakers’ partnership, and Nvidia backed those words with a $2 billion investment in the company.

Marvell Technology stock had a rough regular session on Friday as a broader chip stock selloff hammered the sector — the stock fell by about 17% in the day trading.
The S&P 500 announcement came after the close, giving the stock a lift and reversing a portion of those losses.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Marvell Stock
The S&P 500 inclusion can be a key short-term driver.
Once the change takes effect on June 22, every index fund that tracks the benchmark must buy shares. That creates automatic, structural demand that doesn’t go away after the initial pop.
The underlying business justifies all the attention.
- Marvell just reported record quarterly revenue of $2.4 billion, up 28% year-over-year.
- Q2 guidance came in at $2.7 billion, up 35% year-over-year.
- For the full fiscal year, the company now expects nearly $11.5 billion in revenue (40% growth) and sees another 45% jump in fiscal 2028, targeting $16.5 billion.
- The growth engine here is AI infrastructure: optical interconnects, custom silicon chips, and high-speed networking that links the massive data centers powering AI workloads.
- CEO Matt Murphy said the custom silicon business alone is on track to surpass $10 billion in fiscal 2029.

Marvell Technology stock has surged roughly 190% this year, and sits about 19% below its record high set just days ago.
S&P 500 inclusion adds structural buying pressure on top of an already compounding growth story.
For long-term investors, Marvell Technology stock is one of the clearest, most direct ways to play the AI infrastructure buildout from the semiconductor side.
