What Happened?
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) closed at $507.93 on October 22, down 8.10%, a day after Susquehanna raised its price target to $620 from $550. Most coverage tied the drop to Lam Research (LRCX), a chipmaking equipment supplier that said supply constraints held down its guidance. AMD fell harder than the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, down 6.72%, and NVIDIA (NVDA), down 4.40%. It had already slid about 15% from its October 6 record close of $649.42 before the warning and closed October 22 at 21.79% below that record.

Three Signals Cut the Multiple
Lam CFO Doug Bettinger said the $8.6 billion revenue guide “would have been a bit higher if not for some near-term supply chain constraints,” and reports on the October 21 call put Lam’s supply-chain and clean-room limits into 2027. At NVIDIA’s GTC Berlin event, CEO Jensen Huang called neocloud demand off the charts but said those buyers lack the working capital to fund it. Meta Platforms (META), one of AMD’s 6-gigawatt GPU customers, fell 6.98% the day after its third-quarter report.
None of that has reached AMD’s forecasts yet. Between September 30 and October 22, AMD’s NTM P/E fell from about 55x to about 46x, per TIKR, while its NTM normalized EPS estimate held near $11 and the 2027 revenue consensus rose about 1%. The roughly 17% price drop came entirely from the multiple. AMD still trades at more than twice the ~18x of NVIDIA and the ~19x of Broadcom (AVGO), with consensus normalized EPS growing around 94% a year from 2025 to 2027.

Rack Timing Is Where the Forecasts Are Exposed
At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference on September 11, Dan McNamara, AMD’s SVP and general manager of Compute Enterprise AI, said “getting rack scale solutions at scale is the biggest thing we’re focused on right now.” Later in the session, looking 12 to 24 months out, he said, “I think it will become very clear how we have made that transition quickly.”
That window overlaps the period Lam flagged. Meta’s first gigawatt, with shipments scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, is built on AMD’s Helios rack-scale architecture. As of September 11, McNamara still saw demand running ahead of plan, saying of AMD’s November analyst-day CPU forecast, “we called it too low.”
Susquehanna’s $620 sits about 22% above the October 22 close and below TIKR’s ~ $638 Street mean across 50 price targets. Ratings stand at 39 Buys, 5 Outperforms, and 11 Holds.
TIKR Advanced Model Analysis
- Current Price: $507.93
- Target Price (Mid): ~$2,330
- Potential Total Return: ~359%
- Annualized IRR: ~44% / year

The TIKR model’s mid case, a scenario rather than a forecast, values AMD at around $2,330 by December 31, 2030. That is a ~359% total return from $507.93, or ~44% a year over 4.2 years. For that case to hold, gigawatt-scale Instinct GPU deployments and EPYC server CPU sales need to keep compounding, with revenue outgrowing spending. The primary risk is timing: delayed rack shipments would cut the estimates the model starts from. Upside comes if Helios ships on schedule through 2027. The downside is a delay that hits estimates and the multiple at once.
Conclusion
AMD reports third-quarter results on November 3, after the close. Analysts expect first-quarter 2027 revenue of around $18 billion, up about 76% year over year, per TIKR. A fourth-quarter revenue guide at or above the roughly $16 billion consensus, with no supply caveat on rack timing, would keep the selloff confined to the multiple. A lighter guide blamed on supply would bring the estimates down with it.
