Accenture (ACN) stock is up about 2% on Wednesday, October 14 (trading near $217), after the consulting giant laid out a three-year financial plan at its investor day. Shares jumped about 4% before the open, then gave back roughly half the gain once trading started.

The plan, filed in an 8-K before the event, comes nearly two weeks after Accenture stock rallied roughly 16% on October 1, when fourth-quarter revenue of $18.68 billion beat the top of its own guidance range. Even after that rally, the stock is down about 19% this year.

Accenture’s Answer to the AI Question

The bear case on Accenture is simple: AI agents will do the work consultants and outsourcing teams bill for, and revenue will shrink. The investor day was management’s reply in numbers:

  • Revenue growth in the mid-single digits in local currency in fiscal 2027 and 2028, rising to mid to high single digits in fiscal 2029 (the fiscal year ends August 31)
  • Operating margin up 10 to 30 basis points a year in fiscal 2027 through 2029, starting from fiscal 2026’s adjusted 15.8%
  • $5.5 billion of buybacks expected in fiscal 2027 (first flagged on October 1), with repurchases expected to exceed issuance through the plan
  • Acquisitions adding about 2% to 2.5% to revenue in fiscal 2027
  • An addressable market of $3 trillion

Those are targets, not proof the AI threat has passed, and they only count if fiscal 2027 delivers the first leg.

What the Street Already Had Penciled In

Revenue grew 4.1% in fiscal 2023 and 1.2% in fiscal 2024, then recovered to 7.3% in 2025 and 6.5% in 2026, reaching $74.18 billion.

Consensus has revenue at $77.45 billion in fiscal 2027, $81.24 billion in 2028 and $86.00 billion in 2029. That’s growth of 4.4%, 4.9% and 5.9%. So analysts had already modeled a gradual pickup that lands at the low end of Accenture’s new fiscal 2029 range (the estimates are in dollars, while the plan is in local currency and includes acquisitions). The plan tells the Street the upper half is in play.

The valuation is where the gap shows. ACN trades at 14.57x NTM normalized earnings, 39% below its five-year average of 23.90x.

That’s a multiple for a business in decline, not one guiding to growth near 6%.

Analysts Are Raising Targets, Not Ratings

The Street table shows a split. The mean target climbed to $223.65 on October 13 from $184.19 on August 31, a 21% jump. Yet it sits only about 3% above today’s price, and it’s still 31% below the $323.41 mean of August 2025.

Ratings moved the other way. As of October 13, there were 9 buys and 2 outperforms, down from 14 buys and 4 outperforms at the end of May. Holds rose to 16 from 10.

The Bottom Line on Accenture Stock

The investor day didn’t surprise on the numbers. It put management’s name on an acceleration at a valuation that assumes none. At under 15x earnings, Accenture doesn’t need the top of its range to work. It needs fiscal 2027 to come in at mid-single-digit growth with the margin moving up, because 16 holds tell you analysts want proof before they pay for a plan.

The first test comes with fiscal first-quarter results in December. A clean print would also matter for IBM (IBM), Cognizant (CTSH) and Infosys (INFY), which carry the same AI discount. The $223.65 mean target implies only about 3% upside from $217. The bigger payoff would come if investors start paying something closer to that 23.90x five-year average again, and December’s numbers will decide whether they do.
