Tesla (TSLA) has dropped the “Full Self-Driving” name in Europe. Its FSD pages in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Slovakia now redirect to “Tesla Assisted Driving,” Reuters reported on October 9, after Germany said on Tuesday that Tesla had offered the switch.
The US site still says “Full Self-Driving (Supervised).” In Europe, the old name had become a liability.
A New Name Isn’t an Approval
Regulators had called the old name misleading because the system needs constant supervision, and Sweden’s consumer authority and Italian officials raised similar concerns. Eight EU countries already allow the software, with Slovakia expecting to become the ninth within days. The rest are waiting on an EU-wide vote, now pushed from October to December at the earliest while France runs more tests.
The rename removes an objection to the label. The software still needs the vote.
Where Europe Shows Up in Tesla’s Numbers

Tesla doesn’t break out Europe. It sits inside “Other Countries,” which brought in $26.24 billion in 2025, down 10% from $29.02 billion in 2024 and 12% below its 2023 peak of $29.79 billion.
US revenue ($47.63 billion) and China revenue ($20.96 billion) were both flat last year. Nearly all of Tesla’s 2025 revenue decline came from the region that includes Europe.
That’s where the software matters most. Reuters reports that Tesla’s European registrations rose across several markets in September, so a recovery is already underway. EU-wide approval would hand it a selling point Tesla can’t use in most of the bloc today.
Tesla’s EU-Wide Approval Matters More Than the Name
Bloc-wide approval needs 15 of 27 member states representing 65% of the EU population, and Germany wants the system kept within 10% over the speed limit. France’s extra testing is the one to watch. Tesla doesn’t say how much of last year’s $2.78 billion decline in revenue outside the US and China came from Europe, where the software still lacks bloc-wide approval. A December approval would give Tesla’s rebound there a new selling point. Another delay would postpone a bloc-wide rollout despite the new name.
