What Happened?

Blue Origin wants to close the gap with SpaceX (SPCX). A company executive said Friday that it is targeting multiple New Glenn flights per week by the end of the decade.

It is spending billions on the infrastructure to get there.

Blue Origin has invested over $3 billion in its Florida production and rocket integration facilities, which span roughly 31 acres and have about 5,000 employees.

A $330 million expansion is planned for summer 2027, which will support a heavier version called New Glenn 9×4.

It will also allow up to 150 upper stages a year. The company also plans to add more launch and landing pads in Florida.

There is a catch. New Glenn has been grounded this year as it exploded on its only launchpad in May and badly damaged it.

Its April flight was its first mission failure. A second stage issue left an AST SpaceMobile satellite in the wrong orbit. New Glenn is expected to fly again early next year.

SpaceX is far ahead. It flew 165 Falcon missions last year, mostly for its own Starlink satellites.

Musk envisions hundreds of Starship missions per year.

What the Market Is Telling Us About SpaceX Stock

For SpaceX stock, this news shows how big its lead is. Blue Origin is a serious rival, but it is years from matching SpaceX’s pace.

It also helps explain why launch demand is so strong. The New Glenn explosion tightened a global launch squeeze, and dozens of satellite companies are desperate for rides to space.

SpaceX stock also has strong results behind it. Q2 revenue was $7.8 billion, up 92%, and adjusted EBITDA was $3.5 billion.

The company launched 78 times in the first half of the year. Starlink added more than 1.7 million subscribers in the quarter.

Blue Origin is also a main launch provider for Amazon’s Leo satellite internet network. Leo will rival Starlink.

There are costs to watch.

SpaceX spent about $18.4 billion on capital expenditures in Q2. Most of that went to AI compute, and Starship is still in development.
