What Happened?

SoFi Technologies (SOFI) stock is in focus today after Piper Sandler started coverage with an overweight rating and a $22 price target. That target points to roughly 20% upside from the stock’s current price of $18.29.

Piper Sandler pointed to two main reasons for its bullish stance.

  • First, the firm sees a large and growing market for lending and debt consolidation among younger, creditworthy borrowers, a group SoFi has built much of its business around.
  • Second, analysts highlighted SoFi’s product flywheel, where members keep adding new products over time, helping speed adoption across both new and existing customers.

Looking ahead, Piper Sandler projects SoFi Technologies stock could benefit from a 22% revenue compound annual growth rate and a 27% adjusted EBITDA compound annual growth rate between 2026 and 2028.

That’s not just a hopeful forecast, either. The company has already shown real momentum, posting 40.9% revenue growth over the trailing twelve months.

The fundamentals back this up. In Q2, SoFi grew its member base by 35% year-over-year, while total products grew even faster, up 43% year-over-year.

SoFi offers a wide range of financial services, including loans, checking and savings accounts, investing accounts, credit cards, and insurance, which gives the company multiple ways to deepen relationships with existing members.

Piper Sandler noted that current levels represent an attractive entry point for long-term investors. That said, the firm was clear about the risks too.

SoFi Technologies stock carries a beta of 2.2, meaning it tends to move more sharply than the broader market, and shares are down 30% year-to-date.

This isn’t the only recent positive signal for the stock. SoFi’s Q2 results beat expectations across the board, with adjusted earnings of $0.12 per share and revenue of $1.2 billion, both ahead of Wall Street’s estimates of $0.11 per share and $1.11 billion in revenue.

The company kept its profit guidance steady while continuing to invest more heavily in growth initiatives.

Separately, Needham trimmed its price target on SoFi to $24 from $25 but kept its Buy rating in place, pointing to strength in core lending, including net interest income and origination fees, as an offset to softer performance in its tech solutions and loan platform businesses.

What the Market Is Telling Us About SoFi Technologies Stock

The market’s reaction to Piper Sandler’s new coverage suggests growing confidence that SoFi Technologies stock has been oversold relative to its underlying growth story.

With member and product growth accelerating and a credible path to double-digit revenue and earnings growth through 2028, analysts appear willing to look past the stock’s rocky year-to-date performance.

Still, the high beta and recent volatility are worth keeping in mind.

For investors watching SoFi Technologies stock, today’s move reflects a bet that the company’s growth engine, powered by cross-selling and expanding product adoption, can translate into a sustained re-rating over time.
