What Happened?

Snap (SNAP) is scheduled to face a jury as the only defendant when opening statements begin on November 4, the same day it reports third-quarter results after the close. Meta Platforms (META) settled with the last remaining plaintiff on October 30, two days into jury selection in the Los Angeles youth-harm trial. Snap fell 5.99% that day to $5.34, ending a 15.8% drop over four sessions. That day, Reddit (RDDT) sank 29.22% after warning that Google’s AI search was cutting its traffic, and Pinterest fell after its own weak forecast, so the pressure was not Snap’s alone.

Snap’s CFO Named the Cost Before the Jury Was Seated

The two teenage plaintiffs, identified as S.J. and K.D.B., allege that features such as Snapstreaks and endless scrolling drove compulsive use and harmed their mental health. Snap disputes the claims and says they misrepresent the plaintiffs’ experiences and how Snapchat was designed. The allegations are unproven.

Snap settled its first bellwether case and reached a tentative deal before the second, so a settlement before openings remains possible. Plaintiffs’ lawyers expect the trial to run until mid-December, so no verdict arrives with the earnings report.

CFO Doug Hott flagged the exposure on the August 3 earnings call, pointing to “several trials scheduled in the United States later this year.” He said, “While outcomes remain uncertain, they may result in significant changes to our products and business practices,” along with “negative impacts to user growth and engagement.”

CEO Evan Spiegel said Snap’s U.S. audience “continues to broaden quarter-over-quarter, led by people aged 35 and older.” He said that shift is raising Snap’s relevance in ad categories such as automotive, financial services and insurance.

The Restructuring Has to Show Up in Q3

Hott said personnel cost savings from Snap’s restructuring are expected to be “more fully reflected in Q3 and beyond.” Street estimates in TIKR call for about $337 million in Q3 EBITDA on about $1.73 billion in revenue, both in the upper half of guidance.

A beat has not guaranteed a rally. Snap topped revenue estimates in four of its last five quarters. Yet shares fell 13.37% after its Q4 2025 report, when daily users declined and its first-quarter forecast missed estimates. Its one-day moves after those five reports averaged about 11% either way.

Spiegel said conversions across the platform rose 56% year over year in Q2, while app advertisers’ cost per purchase fell 18%.

Snap Advanced Valuation Model (TIKR)

TIKR’s mid-case targets around $8.40 by December 31, 2030, about 57% above $5.34, or roughly 11.5% a year. The nearer test is 2026. Street estimates in TIKR have EBITDA nearly doubling to about $1.32 billion this year and free cash flow more than doubling to about $921 million.

The primary risk is timing. Q3 and Q4 are expected to supply about $839 million of that EBITDA, nearly two-thirds of the year, while the trial plays out. TIKR shows no 2030 low case. Wall Street’s 12-month mean target of about $7.40 sits about 39% above $5.34.

Conclusion

Q3 EBITDA at or above about $337 million would show the restructuring savings arriving on schedule. A shortfall would push more weight onto Q4, where the Street expects about $502 million. On the legal side, a settlement before openings would remove the nearest risk, while a trial that proceeds runs into December.
