What Happened?

Micron Technology (MU) reports fiscal fourth-quarter results after the close on September 30, and Seoul’s memory stocks sold off two days before it. On September 28, Samsung Electronics fell 5.43%, and SK Hynix (KRX: 000660) dropped 5.05% as Korea reopened after the Chuseok holiday, with foreign investors net selling 3.24 trillion won of KOSPI shares.

SBS tied the drop to global market moves from the holiday closure landing at once and, for SK Hynix, to rumors of a U.S. listing for its Solidigm unit. Micron itself closed September 25 at $1,082.28, up 0.16%. Its report is the next hard data point, and its investor relations materials guide to record revenue.

Management Sees a Tighter 2027. Consensus Has Profits Peaking in Fiscal 2028

At KeyBanc’s Technology Leadership Forum on August 10, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer Sumit Sadana said Micron expects “that 2027 calendar year will be even tighter than 2026.” He added that the company still does not “have line of sight as to when the supply is going to be able to meet demand.” Part of the squeeze is mechanical: 100 bits of HBM3E cost 300 bits of standard DDR supply, and Sadana said that the trade ratio “has worsened to closer to 4:1” by HBM4E.

TIKR consensus keeps rising through fiscal 2028, which ends in August 2028, then turns. GAAP EPS estimates peak at around $188 that year and fall to around $141 by fiscal 2030, while gross margin slides from around 84% to around 65%. Coverage is thin: only four to six analysts publish fiscal 2029 and 2030 revenue estimates, and fiscal 2030 GAAP and normalized EPS estimates differ nearly threefold.

Micron’s own capacity lands in that window. Sadana said the first Idaho fab comes online in mid-2027 and a second by the end of 2028. Asked by KeyBanc analyst John Vinh about moderating price increases, he said “there is pricing opportunity in the future” but that Micron would “try and optimize what the right level of pricing ought to be.”

What the September 30 Print Has to Clear

Management guided fiscal Q4 to $50.0 billion in revenue, plus or minus $1.0 billion, and $31.00 in non-GAAP EPS, plus or minus $1.00, with a gross margin of about 86%. In June, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra pointed to an “even stronger outlook for Q4.” TIKR consensus sits above both midpoints, at around $51.2 billion in revenue and around $31.60 in EPS.

Micron topped adjusted EPS estimates in each of its last five reports, yet the shares fell the next session after three of them, including a 3.78% drop after a fiscal Q2 report that beat revenue estimates by 20.77%. The bar that matters is the fiscal Q1 2027 guide, where consensus sits around $57 billion in revenue and around $35 in EPS.

One risk sits outside the estimates. Micron’s Taoyuan union in Taiwan plans a strike vote in early October after mediation ended without agreement on September 21. It is a vote, not a walkout, and Micron has asked for continued talks, but Taiwan held $18.97 billion of Micron’s $53.96 billion in fiscal 2025 non-current assets, more than any other country.

TIKR’s mid case, realized on 8/31/30, puts Micron at around $1,520, a ~41% total return or ~9% a year from $1,082.28. Revenue leans on two drivers: the HBM4 ramp, which Micron said in June was in high-volume shipments for its lead customer, and data center DRAM demand as AI systems add memory per processor. The margin driver is pricing holding while supply stays short, and the primary risk is the consensus margin reset arriving as new capacity lands. If 2027 proves tighter than 2026, out-year estimates should rise and lift the target. If the fiscal Q1 guide signals peaking prices, the margin path breaks first, and ~9% a year offers thin pay for that cycle risk.

Conclusion

Watch the fiscal Q1 2027 revenue guide on September 30 against the consensus of around $57 billion. A midpoint at or above it, with management repeating that calendar 2027 looks tighter than 2026, supports the model’s path. A midpoint below it would line up with the September 28 selling in Seoul, and the October 1 session will show which read the market takes.
