What Happened?

Royal Caribbean (RCL) stock is gaining attention after the company posted a strong Q1 and laid out a compelling case for why its premium cruise strategy is pulling ahead of rivals.

Royal Caribbean has been investing heavily in two things:

First is newer, more innovative ships and private island destinations. The Icon class ships.

Second are destinations like Perfect Day at CocoCay and the newly opened Royal Beach Club Santorini, which allow the company to charge more than competitors. And guests are paying up.

Q1 earnings came in $0.37 above guidance, driven by better revenue, tighter costs, and stronger-than-expected results from joint ventures.

Load factors hit 109% in the quarter, which means ships were not just full — guests were bringing extra passengers.

Pre-cruise digital spending now accounts for over half of onboard revenue, meaning guests are locking in experiences before they even board.

Royal Caribbean stock also benefits from a loyalty flywheel that’s getting stronger. Repeat guests now make up about 40% of the customer base, up from the historical one-third. Those guests spend roughly 25% more than first-timers and book more frequently.

The full year outlook calls for double-digit earnings growth, with EPS guided between $17.10 and $17.50. Geopolitical disruptions in the Mediterranean and West Coast Mexico created some near-term noise, but management said bookings have already turned the corner.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Royal Caribbean Stock

Royal Caribbean stock is being rewarded for having a product that’s genuinely hard to replicate. An EBITDA margin of 38% is enviable for this industry. New ships like Legend of the Seas are already booking at higher prices than Icon and Star at the same stage.

The investment in Perfect Day Mexico, expected to open late 2027, could unlock the Texas and Gulf region market — a massive opportunity given Texas’s lower cruise penetration versus Florida.
