Key Takeaways
- Norwegian Cruise Line shares jumped 11% after a third-quarter beat and a raised 2026 outlook.
- The jump is a bet on 2027, when management expects Net Yield to grow 1% to 2% after a drop of about 4% in 2026.
- Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Viking all report strong 2027 bookings.
- Net leverage of 5.5x is the main risk.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) is up 11% today after a third-quarter beat and a raised 2026 outlook.
The beat fits what its rivals have been saying. Royal Caribbean (RCL) credited its own beat this week partly to strong close-in demand, Carnival (CCL) topped its forecasts in September, and Viking (VIK) is booking 2027 fast.
What exactly happened
- Adjusted EPS of $1.12, against $0.90 guided
- 2026 guidance raised to about $2.55 billion of adjusted EBITDA and about $1.70 of adjusted EPS
The bigger news was 2027. “We are seeing the early signs of progress and expect Net Yield growth of 1% to 2% in 2027, with a meaningful acceleration in the back half of the year,” said Chairperson and CEO John W. Chidsey.
2027 has to do the heavy lifting
Norwegian still guides Net Yield down about 4% for 2026.
Its rivals are further along. Royal Caribbean’s Net Yields rose 0.9% in the third quarter, and CEO Jason Liberty said “2027 bookings are pacing ahead of historical levels at higher rates.” Carnival says its 2027 booked occupancy and pricing are both at record levels. With demand that healthy, Norwegian’s slump looks like its own to fix.
Viking chases the same well-off travelers as Norwegian’s Oceania and Regent Seven Seas brands. By Aug. 9 it had sold 53% of its 2027 capacity, and its Advance Bookings were 21% ahead of a year earlier. Is there room for Oceania and Regent to win back pricing? Viking’s report in mid-November should tell us.
Going into the report, analysts had Norwegian’s earnings per share slipping from $1.55 in 2026 to $1.48 in 2027.

With yields now guided up for 2027, I’d expect that 2027 estimate to rise.

Worth the bet, with one catch
Net leverage was still 5.5x at the end of September.
My take: the 2027 guide looks reachable. The stock traded at 14x forward earnings at yesterday’s close and is at about 15x after today’s jump, which isn’t expensive for a cruise line getting back to growth.
Of course, most of that growth is promised for the back half of 2027, and the debt leaves little room for a miss.
