Key Takeaways
- NIO stock rose 6% today with no company news, as XPeng, Tesla and Li Auto bounced with growth stocks after the post-midterm sell-off.
- NIO’s October deliveries fell 15.2% from a year earlier and XPeng’s hit a record, but both stocks rose.

NIO (NIO) stock rose 6% today with no news from the company. It rode a bounce in growth stocks after two days of selling that followed Tuesday’s midterm elections.
XPeng (XPEV) rose 7% and Li Auto (LI) rose 5%, neither with news of its own, while Tesla (TSLA) gained 5%.
The whole group got the same bid
NIO and XPeng moved together even though their October numbers went opposite ways. NIO’s deliveries fell 15.2% from a year earlier to 34,246. XPeng delivered a record 50,237, up 20%. Li Auto rose too, though analysts expect its revenue to grow just 0.5% in fiscal 2026. Investors were buying China’s EV makers as a group.
Tesla had news: Elon Musk posted on X that it will wind down Cybertruck production around the middle of next year “to make room for increased Cybercab production.” But at 189x forward earnings as of Thursday’s close, Tesla trades on Cybercab, Robotaxi and Optimus far more than on one pickup.
Lucid Group (LCID) rose 7% with no news either. Its question is still cash: $3 billion of total liquidity at June 30, which management then expected to last well into 2027.
NIO’s own numbers have to follow
Analysts still expect NIO’s revenue to climb from RMB87.5 billion in 2025 to RMB128 billion this year and RMB169 billion by 2028.

Getting there takes volume NIO isn’t delivering yet: its goal of more than 40,000 cars a month this quarter now needs November and December to average about 42,900. When it reports in late November, its vehicle margin has to hold near the second quarter’s 18.5%, and operating cash flow has to stay positive, as management expects.

Cheap can stay cheap
NIO’s forward price-to-sales multiple shows how far sentiment has fallen:

It was 0.4x at Thursday’s close, the low of its five-year range against a 1.6x average, and it’s still about 0.4x after today’s jump.
This was the market’s mood lifting, and I wouldn’t buy NIO on it. After October’s drop, I want to see the third-quarter margin and cash flow first. November’s deliveries, due in early December, could change that quickly if they top 40,000.
