What Happened?

KKR (KKR) stock climbed about 5% as alternative asset managers bounced back from a sharp sell-off. The spark was Blackstone.

Blackstone surged 8%, shaking off news that it had begun limiting withdrawals from its Private Credit fund, and KKR and Ares each gained in sympathy.

The rebound came right after a rough few days.

Switzerland’s Partners Group had capped quarterly redemptions on a private equity fund as withdrawal requests surged, and its shares fell roughly 17% in Zurich, their biggest intraday drop on record.

That news raised fresh fears about private market valuations and pulled the whole group lower. KKR stock slipped around 4% on Wednesday as part of that wave.

What the Market Is Telling Us About KKR Stock

The quick recovery shows investors decided the panic was overdone. One big reason is size.

  • Direct lending makes up just $39 billion, or about 5% of KKR’s total assets.
  • The private BDC that drew all the redemption headlines is even smaller, at around $3 billion, or 0.4% of assets.
  • In other words, the part of the business everyone is worried about is tiny.
  • It also helps that KKR’s money is sticky. More than 90% of its capital is permanently locked up for 8 years or longer.
  • That kind of long-term capital keeps generating fees no matter how jumpy markets get.

The numbers back this up. In the first quarter,

  • Fee-related earnings per share rose 23%,
  • Management fees grew 30%, and
  • Adjusted net income per share climbed 20%.
  • Management saw the stock’s low share price as an opportunity to buy. The firm repurchased about $317 million of stock at an average price of $91.
  • Its co-CEOs and several directors bought shares personally.
KKR Stock Valuation Model (TIKR)

Even after today’s pop, KKR stock still sits about 40% below its 52-week high and is down sharply for the year.

So the move tells you the market now views the redemption scare as a sentiment problem, not a real threat to KKR’s earnings.

For long-term investors, KKR stock remains a way to bet on private equity, infrastructure, and the steady fee income that funds it.
