What Happened?

JPMorgan upgraded Intel (INTC) to Neutral from Underweight late Friday, according to Investing.com. Intel stock gained nearly 3% on Monday, following the upgrade.

The firm said the risk and reward now look more balanced even as Intel stock trades above JPMorgan’s $85 price target. However, the tech stock is also down about 36% from its June peak.

Analyst Harlan Sur said the turnaround will take years. But he said management has made a solid start and his confidence in the recovery is rising, while pointing to AI-related demand as a tailwind.

The upgrade fits what Intel showed on its Q2 call. Revenue was $16.1 billion, which was $1.8 billion above the midpoint of guidance. EPS of $0.42 beat the $0.20 guide by a wide margin.

CEO Lip-Bu Tan said it was the seventh straight quarter of beating expectations.

Data center was the key driver as revenue rose 59% from last year. Intel also said its AI-driven businesses grew more than 70% and made up about 70% of revenue.

Manufacturing is improving too. Output on Intel 18A was about 25% above target and management said yields are tracking ahead of plan.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Intel Stock

For Intel stock, the upgrade is a cautious vote of confidence, not a cheer. Neutral means JPMorgan sees fewer reasons to be bearish and does not call Intel a bargain.

There are real risks. Intel said supply is still tight and it expects PC demand to fall by a low double-digit percentage in 2026.

It also plans to spend more than $20 billion on capital in 2026, with a bigger number in 2027. CFO David Zinsner said that could weigh on cash flow next year.

Intel stock now depends on turning demand into supply.

Management said it will fall short of demand again in Q4, even as supply improves.
