What Happened?

Expedia (EXPE) stock jumped 5% on Monday, closing just above $339, after two major Wall Street firms raised their price targets in the same session.

Evercore ISI moved first, lifting its target from $375 to $430 and keeping an Outperform rating. Wedbush followed shortly after, raising its target from $334 to $417 and keeping an Outperform rating.

Together, the two calls pushed the average new price target to $424. That’s about 19.5% above the previous targets.

Both firms are essentially betting that Expedia can keep winning market share as travel demand holds up. That’s a meaningful vote of confidence, especially coming from two firms on the same day.

Trading activity backed up the move. Expedia stock changed hands 767,452 times during the session, and the company’s market cap climbed to $40.5 billion. When two respected research shops raise targets together, it tends to give investors more conviction that the rally isn’t just short-term hype.

Timing matters here too.

Upgrades this size usually don’t come out of nowhere. They tend to follow deeper behind-the-scenes work, like channel checks, conversations with management, or updated financial models.

That suggests analysts see something concrete, whether it’s stronger bookings, better margins, or Expedia pulling ahead of competitors.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Expedia Stock

The market’s reaction shows investors are taking these upgrades seriously.

A 5% single-day jump on analyst target hikes, rather than on hard earnings numbers, tells you Wall Street expects Expedia stock to keep performing well in the quarters ahead.

Now comes the harder part: living up to it. With expectations reset higher, Expedia stock will need results to match the optimism.

Investors should watch booking trends, take rates, and anything management says about marketing efficiency or new platform features. Those will be the real tests of whether the new $424 average target holds up.
