What Happened?

Boeing’s (BA) top jetliner sales executive is stepping down. Brad McMullen, senior vice president of global sales and marketing, will retire in December.

Ryan Weir will take over, who currently runs the North American market. The news comes from a memo seen by Reuters.

McMullen led Boeing’s commercial recovery after the 2024 mid-air door plug blowout. He was seen as a key figure in calming airlines that were rattled by the incident.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope said he built deep and trusting relationships with customers.

Weir has a long sales background at the company.

He ran sales in India and South Asia and also took charge of sales to global leasing companies.

The timing comes during a turnaround. In 2025, Boeing beat Airbus in the order race for the first time in seven years.

Deals tied to foreign visits by President Donald Trump helped, and orders for the 787 wide-body jet have also surged.

There is still a gap to close. Boeing lags Airbus in long-range narrowbody jets like the A321neo, and the company hopes the upcoming approval of its 737 MAX 10 will help.

What the Market Is Telling Us About Boeing Stock

For Boeing stock, a change in sales leadership matters because orders are the base of the business. The company says its backlog is a record $715 billion, which includes more than 6,200 commercial airplanes.

The Q2 numbers showed progress. Boeing delivered 171 airplanes, its best quarter since 2018.

Revenue rose 8% to $24.6 billion and free cash flow was positive at $631 million. Management expects $1 billion to $3 billion in free cash flow this year.

BA Stock Street Target (TIKR)

It reported a core loss per share of $0.76, while operating margin was just 0.6%. A $280 million charge on the VC-25B program also weighed on results.

Management says the 737-7 is close to FAA approval, with the 737-10 to follow; deliveries of both are planned for 2027.

So Boeing stock is tied to how well the company turns this backlog into deliveries and cash.
