Why BillionToOne Stock Jumped 12% Tuesday Without a Single Headline

BillionToOne (BLLN) stock jumped 12% on Tuesday, September 22, closing at $116, even though the company put out no press release or guidance update that session. The last company announcement landed three weeks earlier.

So the move came from buyers leaning into a story that was already on the table. BillionToOne sells prenatal blood tests under its UNITY brand and cancer liquid biopsy tests, which read tumor DNA from a blood draw, under its Northstar brand.

That story starts with second-quarter results from August 5. Revenue climbed 64% to $109.4 million, gross margin widened 5 percentage points to 70%, and the company booked $8.1 million in net income while holding its 2026 revenue guidance at $450 million to $465 million.

CEO Oguzhan Atay framed the quarter as proof of staying power, saying it “demonstrated the durability of our model.” The balance sheet backs that up: BillionToOne ended June with $548.6 million in cash and posted $5.5 million in operating income, so the company can fund its growth without tapping outside capital.

The mix of that growth matters more than the headline. Tests delivered rose 35% to 196,000, but average selling price (ASP, the revenue collected per test) jumped 21% to $551. BillionToOne is getting paid more for each test, and pricing gains drop straight into margin.

Oncology is the faster engine, even from a small base. Northstar revenue surged 176% to $13.7 million, against $94.2 million from the prenatal business, which grew 55%.

September gave the oncology side fresh material. On September 1, BillionToOne launched Northstar Origin, a test that identifies where a cancer started, and said it named the correct primary site as its top prediction in 87% of 1,578 validation cases. It also expanded the Northstar Select panel from 84 genes to 102.

Tuesday also brought a sector tailwind. Natera gained 6% the same day after new lung cancer data for its Signatera monitoring test, and Natera competes with BillionToOne in both prenatal screening and cancer testing.

The insider filings trace how fast the stock ran. CEO Oguzhan Atay exercised and sold 24,999 shares on September 14 at $98.63 to $101.49, taking his directly held Class A stake to zero, while shares held by his spouse fell to 157,168.

Three sessions later, general counsel Thomas Lynch sold 35,112 shares at $110.29 to $110.36 after exercising options priced between $8.65 and $30.78. He kept 700 shares. Both sales came through option exercises, and both executives sold below Tuesday’s close.

Insiders selling into a rally doesn’t break a thesis on its own, and both sellers were converting cheap options rather than dumping long-held stock. But two senior executives trimming exposure near $100 and $110 tells buyers at $116 that the people closest to the numbers didn’t wait for higher prices.

That leaves BillionToOne stock up 16% in six trading sessions on momentum and a peer’s good news, with no new company number behind the final 12%.

BillionToOne Stock Has Caught Up to Its $120 Street Target

Street Analysts Target for BLLN Stock (TIKR)

Nine months ago the picture looked very different. At the end of 2025, BillionToOne stock closed at $82 against a $138 mean target, a 68% gap. By March 31 the stock had slipped to $79 and analysts cut the mean to $117, trimming upside to 48%.

Then the price did the catching up. By June 30 the stock closed at $120, $2 above the $118 mean target, and the Street has lifted its mean only $2 since then while the shares whipsawed back to $116.

Ratings moved the other way from targets. Buys climbed from 3 to 5 and target coverage grew from 6 analysts to 8, yet the high target fell from $160 to $145 and the low dropped from $110 to $90. Analysts like the business more than they did in December and pay less for it.

That split frames Tuesday’s move. The $145 high target sits 25% above the close and the $90 low sits 22% below it, so the Street’s range stays wide, but its center barely moved while the stock gained 16% in six sessions. BillionToOne stock has priced in nearly all of the upside the average analyst sees, and the next leg needs higher targets, most likely from a third-quarter print that pushes toward the top of the $450 million to $465 million guide.
