What Happened?
Astera Labs stock dropped about 12% today to close near $318 after its second-quarter earnings report, giving back most of the 13% gain recorded during the previous session. The market debate has shifted from whether Astera Labs can benefit from booming AI infrastructure spending to whether its expansion from connectivity components into higher-value fabric switches can grow fast enough to justify its demanding valuation.
Astera Labs stock appears to have fallen because its exceptional earnings beat and far-above-consensus outlook were not enough to clear the unusually high expectations created by its pre-earnings rally. The company reported adjusted EPS of $0.80 on revenue of $392.4 million, compared with consensus estimates of about $0.70 and around $361 million, while the $550 million midpoint of its Q3 revenue guidance exceeded Wall Street’s roughly $417 million forecast. The decline therefore looks more like a reassessment of how much Scorpio-driven growth was already reflected in the stock than a deterioration in Astera Labs’ operating outlook.
This week, Astera Labs reported record Q2 revenue of $392.4 million, up 27% sequentially and 104% year over year, while non-GAAP operating margin reached 39.1% and non-GAAP EPS rose to $0.80. CEO Jitendra Mohan said Scorpio is expected to become the company’s largest product family in Q3, “one quarter ahead of our prior expectations,” as PCIe 6 products generated more than 50% of revenue and Scorpio X-Series entered volume production. Management guided for Q3 revenue of $540 million to $560 million, representing 40% sequential growth at the midpoint, and non-GAAP EPS of $1.16 to $1.21.
Needham raised its price target from $260 to $425 and maintained a Buy rating following the report, while TD Cowen lowered its target from $425 to $375 and kept a Hold rating, reflecting different views on how much upside remains after the rally. Astera Labs competes with Broadcom and Marvell in data-center switching and connectivity silicon, while Credo competes more directly with Taurus through high-speed electrical links. Credo’s latest quarterly revenue increased 157% to $437 million, while Marvell’s fiscal 2026 revenue rose 42% to about $8.2 billion, showing that Astera Labs is pursuing a rapidly expanding market alongside well-funded rivals already benefiting from the same AI infrastructure cycle.

Is Astera Labs Fully Valued?
Under valuation assumptions, the stock is modeled using:
- Revenue Growth (CAGR): Around 35%
- Operating Margins: Around 30%
- Exit P/E Multiple: 77x
The model’s revenue assumption depends primarily on Scorpio becoming a much larger business as hyperscalers deploy fabric switches that move data rapidly among expanding clusters of AI processors.
Aries retimers, which preserve signal quality inside high-speed servers, and Taurus products, which support faster network connections, provide additional growth as PCIe 6 and 800-gigabit networking adoption expands.

The EBIT chart shows consensus margins rising from around 39% in 2026 to around 44% in 2028 before falling toward 24% by 2030, highlighting how strongly near-term earnings depend on the current AI product cycle.
An operating-margin assumption of around 30% is more conservative than the near-term consensus outlook, but the 77x exit P/E remains aggressive because it assumes Astera Labs retains a substantial valuation premium while competing with larger connectivity suppliers.
Based on these assumptions, the model estimates a target price of around $320 by the end of 2028, implying essentially no return from the latest closing price. Astera Labs therefore appears fully valued even under favorable assumptions, with the stock already pricing in a successful Scorpio ramp, sustained hyperscaler spending, and a continued premium earnings multiple.
