Key Takeaways

  • Amazon and Uber now give US Prime members $0 delivery fees on Uber Eats restaurant orders of $25 or more placed through Amazon.
  • The perk puts DoorDash’s main rival in front of Prime households at no extra cost, straight at the DashPass subscriptions DoorDash relies on.
  • Amazon first bundled Grubhub delivery into Prime in 2022, and DoorDash’s share of delivery spending rose anyway.
  • DoorDash’s fourth-quarter report is the first place to look for any damage.

Amazon (AMZN) just swapped Prime’s restaurant partner for a much bigger one. On Nov. 5, it and Uber (UBER) saidUS Prime members can order Uber Eats through Amazon’s website and app, with $0 delivery fees on orders of $25 or more.

That’s a direct shot at DoorDash (DASH), which keeps its best customers ordering through DashPass. It also comes a week after DoorDash agreed to buy Instacart for $17 billion.

What Prime Members Get

  • $0 delivery fees on restaurant orders of $25 or more, on Amazon.com or in the Amazon app.
  • Nearly 10,000 US cities and towns, and hundreds of thousands of restaurants.
  • $20 off each of the first two $25-plus orders in the first 14 days, plus 5% back on Uber Eats orders for Prime Visa cardholders through Dec. 5.
  • Every Prime tier, including the half-price Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access.

Uber charges $96 a year for Uber One, which waives delivery fees on food and groceries. Prime members now get free Uber Eats delivery inside the $139 they already pay.

DoorDash Has the Most to Lose

DoorDash leans on DashPass. Its third-quarter release says that over the last two years, DashPass growth helped drive a 9% reduction in transaction fees per order in its US restaurant business. Total orders rose 28% to 993 million, and revenue rose 34% to $4.6 billion (17% and 23% without Deliveroo, which it bought last year).

Analysts expect revenue to nearly double from $13.7 billion in 2025 to $25.7 billion in 2028.

One Prime perk won’t change that on its own. But it gives Uber an easy way to compete for the new customers DoorDash needs to hit those numbers, and DoorDash can’t easily answer with richer perks. On TIKR’s measure, its EBIT margin only turned positive in 2024, at 0.5%, and reached 6.1% in 2025.

Uber Gets Amazon’s Front Door

Prime members never need an Uber account, so Uber Eats now reaches shoppers who may never have downloaded its app. And delivery is outgrowing rides at Uber: delivery gross bookings grew 23% in the third quarter at constant currency, against 17% for rides. That growth lifted DoorDash’s stock on Nov. 4.

Uber can also pay for this fight from a much bigger business. It made $52.0 billion in 2025, rides included, nearly four times DoorDash’s $13.7 billion.

Amazon Has Tried This With Grubhub

Prime added free Grubhub+ in 2022 and made it an ongoing benefit in 2024, before replacing it with Uber Eats on Nov. 5, 2026. DoorDash stock fell more than 7% on the 2022 news. Over the same stretch, its share of US delivery-app spending rose from 44% in 2021 to 59% in the third quarter, according to Consumer Edge card data. Uber Eats sat at 18%.

Grubhub+ waived fees on orders over $12. This perk starts at $25, works only through Amazon, and offers little to a DashPass member who already pays nothing for delivery.

The DashPass Number DoorDash Has to Defend

Uber is the clear winner today: it gets Prime’s distribution without building it. Neither company disclosed who pays for the free delivery, and that will shape Uber’s delivery margins. For DoorDash, the Grubhub years suggest the damage will be slow, if it shows up at all.

I’d watch whether DoorDash keeps adding DashPass members when Prime already gives free Uber Eats delivery. Its fourth-quarter report, early next year, is the first test.
